I purchased a recent ebay listing for an old NeXT pizza box, inside with a brand new keyboard, mouse, manuals, cables, stickers and pamphlets. It appears it was destined for a NeXT dimension system based on the cables that were included.
It was fun to open it up, everything still has the new manufacturing smell on it, pristine. The keyboard has a packing paper/sticker that states user acceptance of the software once removed. I tested the keyboard and mouse and they were perfectly (did not remove the paper/sticker). I'm not sure if I should use it lightly or continue with it in storage, I can't imagine there are many such unopened NeXT hardware out there?
The box lists Walt Disney Studios in Burbank as the original buyer.
There won't be many unopened starting point kits still about, if any. You can open it and use it, but if I did it, I'd feel like I was drinking £20,000 champagne to wash down my McDonald's burger and fries or using Mona Lisa for darts target practice.
