The poster in the picture belongs to Rob Blessin of Black Hole, Inc.  I saw it at his old house, along with the little green figure on the monitor.  :)   I may see him this weekend when I pick up some Colorstations that I purchased, so I'll ask him about it.  Maybe it could be recreated in Photoshop?

I have the 1988 launch poster for the Cube framed on the wall of my office.  I also have a copy of the "Ten Things" poster from the early 90's that I plan to frame for my art collection.  I really need to find a copy of that station poster to complete the set.

I have never thought about scanning the poster.  I may have to check with some graphic shops in Dallas to check the cost of scanning and printing copies.  I also have a poster for the launch of the Sun Sparcstation 1.

It would really be great if someone could scan them 300 dpi and put them on the internet as JPEGs for us all to see.

Sorry for the slow response.  I talked to Rob yesterday and he said that as far as he knows, the poster is one of a kind, so he doesn't have any for sale.   However, he has some NeXTWorld posters for sale.  You can contact him through the phone number / email address on his website at http://www.blackholeinc.com/specials/contact.shtml .  There's a copy of the NeXTstation image here if 68040 or someone else wants to do some Photoshop magic:

Classic computer projects and "hobby computer things to do" are so on the back burner with me.  It may take me months to find spare time to arrange something like a scan of my posters.  It's not that I don't want to get it done but between my $job and $kids and $wife and $second $job and $new house, I really have very few minutes to call my own.

This is something that I will look into but it may be a couple of months before I have a chance.  I have three daughters, one wife and over 10k desktops to support that come first.  When I do find something out, I'll post it ASAP.

Edit:  I reread my post and I think it exhibits a bitchy tone that I didn't mean to convey.  It's beena really rare day today.  I'm sorry guys.

I just whipped up an SVG version - converted the GIF, enlarged the bitmap, and ran it through Inkscape's bitmap trace..

It's not perfect, and it's not an original, but it's plottable 8)

I just may run up to Kinko's and see what happens..

I need to look at some other posters for reference, and find out what the deal is with the tablecloth-looking shadow..

The SVGZ is 18"x24", but is resizable of course..

--
I messed around with it a little more..

Here's an Illustrator version (http://itomatos.flotsm.com/Resources/NeXTStationPoster.ai.gz)
And a PDF Version (http://itomatos.flotsm.com/Resources/NeXTStationPoster.pdf)

Preview shows it blank for me as well under OSX.

It opens fine with Acrobat Reader 7 under XP.

Checked with Acrobat 5.0 / Mac OS 10.4.8 , that'll do the trick also. I got to say these are strange *.pdf. They are supposed to be portable aren't they? This thing should be named *.apdf (meaning adobepdf - ok i'm guilty, thats a bad joke - someone comes up with something better please?)  :D

*supposed* to be portable.  Adobe makes new versions of Acrobat all the time, what incentive do they have to not default to using the most advanced features (and possibly the not well documented ones)?
Title: NeXT Computer Poster!!
Post by: PowerPC on October 31, 2006, 09:19:28 AM
Well problem's most certainly anything but a new advanced feature as acrobat 5.0 i used to acess the file was bundled with the classic enviroment and that has been around for a while.

I saved the PDF out of Inkscape.  It could be weird, but it opened up for me also.

I'll give it another crank..

I am still messing with the Slab poster..

Here's a second PDF attempt: http://itomatos.flotsm.com/Resources/NeXTStationPoster_b.pdf

It opens in xpdf and gpdf, and apparently on WinXp/Acroread 7..

What pdf reader is generating a blank page?

I made this as a desktop, but there's a 18"x24" poster version as well:

Preview in OSX has problems with both of these.
The nextstation one is blank, and the cube one shows part of the cube and the word cube, and then some upside down letters CUB below it.

The EPS version of either poster should be viewable with Preview - on NeXT or OS X.

I would try another PDF viewer, the EPS version, or creating another PDF with a converter or with Illustrator or the like.  An (untested) .ai file is there, also.

No joy on the eps version in preview on OSX.  It is also not rendered properly for some reason.

Hello,

I was wondering if it's possible to purchase the Cube launch poster somewhere? I've looked everywhere on the Net without success. I've found a picture of an office with one in the Spymac.com gallery and it looks just amazing.

I'd even be ready to PayPal a reasonable donation to any kind soul ready to send me a good scanned copy.  :)

Cheers,

I have been looking this poster for about two years and no success, I would like to buy it too, but I think that the best option is to get a 1:1 high ressolution scan. but the issue is to ask is some one is so kind to donate or sell such scan.

I know why and allready red the post, why can not the NexStep be shared ... and some people are selling OEM software, that is not legal too.. anyway there are some people here, that do not care if they just illegal copied software to some friend who want to check or play with the system, and if they are enyjoed with the system, they will for shure found the original Cds.. tnx to them and I am one of them too

oops!!

sorry, you I just was trying to share my thoughs, you problably know that is so hard to find that, poster, and I do not know how expensive could be a high quality scan in a 1:1 scale, you know that home scanners are small and if  someone who owns such poster want to scanner why not the people interested just spread (divide) or (share) the total cost and for a ultra high exece;lect super quality scan, and then we can plotter in a high quality photo pinter.

I would like to ask if some one that owns such a poster want to scan it and I would be happy to share the scan cost.

think about it

cheers

I know that's the poster you were talking about.  I have one mounted and framed on my office wall.

Thomas Reprographics wants $90.00 USD plus tax to do a flat bed scan of my poster.  That is scan to file, no printing services quoted.

I took some pictures for my posters.  Warning:  the images have not been resized, so download may be slow.  Also I took pics of my other NeXT poster.  It has a bit of water damage on it and I took some of my SparcStation launch poster.

I was quoted $90 to scan it but no details were given for the color depth, format or resolution of the resulting scan.  I may have to make a phone call to find out those details.

I'm thinking of investing in have the "10 Things" poster scanned so I can try ot clean it up.  Probably a project for after the 1st of the year.  I need to have it, the Sparc one and my Cube poster mounted and framed.
