I would re-read the auction.  It says "UPDATE:THIS WAS NOT TESTED WITH DISKS-WORKS AFTER MULTIPLE POWER ON TESTS AT 5 MINUTE INTERVALS."

How can one say it works but not with disks <grin>.  Sure, we all have units that power on.  Reading and writing is another story.

I think buyer beware anytime these things are on eBay.

Yes, powering on tells you nothing about the state of the drive. I would avoid this.

Yeah, it's a dud.

Some drives uncontrollably run their spindle motor so they SOUND like they're doing something but otherwise they're still as bad as the rest of them.
