Title: PKG installation problem with DISKNAME
Post by: guillaume on February 14, 2014, 12:09:22 PM
Hello,

I downloaded some PKG from the net and burn them onto a CD ROM.
When trying to install one, it complains about the wrong disk name! My CD has a name "NEW_CDxxxx"...

Well...

I copied the PKG on my hard disk in /me/Apps
I edited the *.info file to change the diskname to /me/Apps
And....

Installation begins with the file verification (ok)
and when starting the actual installation, it says that the PKG doesn't contain all the files and must be installed from the original disks...

What can I do???

Guillaume.

So the original disk name wasn't in the info file ?

Would it be possible to get these pkg or a link ?

You may consider uncompress the file(s) yourself directly in a subdirectory of /me/apps

Hello!

I took the PKG from:

http://www.omnigroup.com/ftp/pub/software/Archive/OPENSTEP/

For example:

http://www.omnigroup.com/ftp/pub/software/Archive/OPENSTEP/OmniFrameworks-1998G2-OSM-NIS.pkg.tar.gz

and:

http://www.omnigroup.com/ftp/pub/software/Archive/OPENSTEP/OmniPlugIns-3.0b8-OSM-NIS.pkg.tar.gz

The diskname is in the info file but doesn't match the CD ROM name and this looks a problem to it.

How can I uncompress the files by myself?
I don't know the command line for that.

Gunzip and untar the pkg.tar.gz and then cd into the .pkg.
There should be a .tar.Z file there. Uncompress that file and then use

/NextAdmin/Installer.app/installer_bigtar xf file.tar

You should then be able to move it into place to install it yourself.

Hello,

Thanks for the infos, I will try this.
The idea, at first, was to install a WEB browser on the NextStation to have a direct Internet access. Maybe are there better browsers than Omniweb?

Maybe you can also try this:
- log as Root
- with the archive copied in /LocalApps and decompressed ( using file inspector)
http://www.omnigroup.com/ftp/pub/software/Archive/OPENSTEP/OmniWeb-3.1rc1-OSM-NIS.pkg.tar
you should obtain a .pkg file
- open the package
- click the install button a the top of the panel,
then you should be able to select where  to install it and which architecture (NeXT, intel ...)
- click the 'Set...' (Definir in french) button to choose a path.  The default path should be '/LocalApps/Internet' . Just press the 'cancel' button, or select a folder.

- click the install button to start the installation.

Does it works now ?

the other archive (gnutar) should be decompressed using app from:
http://www.nextcomputers.org/NeXTfiles/Software/NEXTSTEP/Apps/Compression_Utilities/Opener/3.4b/

which hardware are you using ?

In few words,at this time, to have better browser than Omniweb, We have to develop them ourselves. A port of Webkit would be a solution.
Netsurf( http://www.netsurf-browser.org/) does'nt have javascript support now, but it's progressing...
