Dear NeXT Community,
I have made a User's Manual for Previous so Gilles and Andreas can add it with Previous. It is in PDF format created with Microsoft Word 2013 Pro Plus. If any want source I'll upload the source. Now I am releasing the Manual, ver 0.1. -
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/s/onmj0qqbili4a8q/Previous%20User%27s%20Manual.pdfIt is a rapid release so it have some writing mistakes etc. Please feedback mistakes, suggestions etc.
Thanks
Mominul
Nice manual. If you like, I can provide some grammar edits if you send me a link to the source.
Here is the source -
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/s/up1fhr1yplp91hi/Previous%20User%27s%20Manual%20Source.zipThank you for your feedback. You can also add what you want to. Do you have Microsoft Office 2013? So we can improve the Manual! :D I'll be offline for some days so don't wait for my reply.
Thanks
Mominul
Mominul, thanks for your efforts in writing a manual!
It needs some more polishing and some more content, but it's a good starting point! Keep it going!
Just one thing: Have you asked all the people if you can provide their e-mail addresses? It may be better to not include them. Spammers love e-mail addresses in clear text. Maybe a reference to the forums and the homepage is enough.
You mentioned me as an author. I think because you used parts of the README? You don't need to mention me for that.
I have uploaded the source to Google Docs to make it easier for us to edit together. Anyone who is interested in helping out with the manual, PM me your Google Docs-enabled email address and I'll add you as an editor.
mominul, if you'd rather host it, let me know and we can make that happen.
Eagle good idea! I'll pm my gmail address. Please delete the email addresses from the author lists.
@ Andreas, yes a have copy paste from readme & hatari user manual. Eagle will upload the manual to Google docs so we can all edit the manual!
Thank you Andreas and eagle for your efforts.
Mominul
Andreas please PM your gmail address to eagle so he can add you as an author and you can improve the manual and please also talk to gilles with that.
@eagle the hyperlinks are not working on PDF.
mominul, I did notice that the links aren't working. I'm sure that's just a translation issue between Google Docs and Microsoft Word, and we'll eventually get it worked out. At the moment, I'd be more concerned with content.
I am thinking that can we add a simple instructions to setup NS/OS ? and also a history about NeXT's Computers?
Thanks
Mominul
I'm not using gmail. I don't have time to do serious work on the manual anyway. But i'll have a look at it occasionally and comment on it here. I suggest making PDF releases from time to time for those without access to google docs.
Here is the Manual on the Google Docs -
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1eCPeQNKYcciiJmnhvgA9B8Lf3UK_uspRenBy15hmMa8/edit#heading=h.gjdgxsI have started writing installing nextstep 3.3 on Previous.
@Andreas can you give your email address to eagle so he can make a way to add you. I am seeing that gilles may be offline but please try to talk to him.
@Eagle I am started editing please check if there is any wrong.
I'll try to release the 0.2 very soon.
Here is the 0.1a release -

I have included NeXT history from wikipedia.
Thanks for writing that manual! Just had a quick look and it seems to much better than the first version.
I don't have the time to review it completely, but i'm sure users will appreciate your work and i hope you get some feedback.
Yes, indeed, I'm following the manual. Thanks a lot, Mominul!
Btw... can anybody point me to a guide for formatting the NeXTSTEP CD images in a format that can be read by Previous? I think I did find such a guide or faq some days ago, but I cannot find it now, and this manual doesn't explain it either...
Thanks for the nice words and feedback's. Release 0.2 coming soon. I am wanting to insert a FAQ on the manual, Please give your suggestions what things should be added to FAQ.
@ardi Previous can read ISO's. You can make iso of your CD's. I'll add it to FAQ.
ardi, Previous only reads raw disk images. You can make them for example by using the dd utility. The CD images that are around on the internet have a .iso ending, but are in fact raw copies of the disks.
If anyone wants access to the Google Docs version, but does not have it, PM me and I'll get you set up.
eagle are you editing the manual?

there's a windows binary available on gilles's site ->
http://previous.alternative-system.com/files/previous_0_5_win32.zipand on WinWorld, there's also a pre-compiled binary for MS-Windows ->

Thanks mikeboss!
But I wanted to compile myself and experiment with my ideas. I have tried earlier to compile Previous(SDL2) with cygwin but failed...
I have compiled on ubuntu. But Previous on ubuntu is super super super slow.
Now I need help with editing the manual. Can any help with me on that?
