This topic is from my cached copy of the original post on Openstep.se, of April 12th, 2005Tenzin, 15:14Hello,
What is the maximum specification SPARC that Openstep will run on ?
What is the most recent version of Solaris that Openstep 1.0 Solaris will run on ?
Thankyou,
Tenzin
RacerX, 22:14Well, I believe both Solaris OpenStep 1.0 and 1.1 (ftp://ftp.blackcube.org/Peanuts/OpenStep/implementation/solaris/) can be used up to Solaris 2.5, but I don't know if that is a hard upper limit or not. Additional documentation can be found here (
http://www.rollergroup.com/nextpsug/suns.htm) and here (
http://alge.anart.no/ftp/pub/Solaris/OpenStep/Docs/OpenStep.html).
As for running either NEXTSTEP or OPENSTEP on Sun Hardware, this is the documentation I have on the subject:

what I do not have cached is my reply post, so I approximate it hereTenzin, a bit laterThankyou for a highly informative reply, if I see on old SPARCstation needing a good home, I'll get it.
I'm not sure that the content of the post fits the subject line...
My earlier posts (see "Guide to NextStep and Sun Hardware, Parts 1 & 2) cover everything a newbie needs to get NS running on a Sun.
The fastest NS on Sun hardware config. would be a SPARCstation 20 with an 85 MHz SuperSPARC-II CPU (yes, 90MHZ exist - good luck finding one...), a fast HD (say, 10k RPM), and 256MB RAM.
Cheers

Yes, I used the same subject line as the original post on Openstep.se last year.
Should I get a SPARC, I now know everything I need to get Openstep on it.
