Hi All

I have installed NeXTSTEP 3.3 in VMware Fusion 6.0.4 running in OS X 10.9.5 without any great fuss. Spec is 128MB RAM & 1.75GB HDD.

Thus far I have installed VMMouse.1.1 to get the mouse working correctly and the video driver VMWareFB.1.00. Runs fine at 1024x768 but if I increase the resolution to 1280x1024 I get the error "A fault has occurred causing a virtual CPU to enter the shutdown state." Can't find any relevant info about this error.

Same result if RAM increased to 256MB & OS type set to FreeBSD or Other.

Has anyone come across this, got any ideas?

Cheer, Paul

You might try installing the y2k patch under root in NeXTStep and then look for the Vesa video driver ... Then you have to set it to look for it but it allows multiple resolutions , haven't tried it yet in that version of VMware but it's worth a shot. Best regards Rob Blessin

Try using the later version 1.2 of VMwareFB. You can load it here: https://github.com/andreas-g/VMwareFB/downloads (https://github.com/andreas-g/VMwareFB/downloads).

Rob, can you update the driver in the forum's file archives?

Thanks for the feedback gentlemen.

Nothing worked for NeXTSTEP so moved onto OPENSTEP with same results, it would not go above verticle res of 768 so was stuck at 1280x768 max.

The VSEA driver did not show any display options.

Anyways found this thread about changing compatibility options...
http://www.nextcomputers.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=3378

and all is good, now running OPENSTEP happily at 1680x1050!

Will apply to the NeXTSTEP install as well, then move onto installing Rhapsody.

Brings back great memories, used to run OPENSTEP on a PC years ago and been a OS X Server sysadmin since the origional version.

Cheers, Paul
