Hey guys. I  managed to install NeXTSTEP 3.3 on my Toshiba Satellite 4000CDT.
I installed the 2000.Xircom.Realport.1.00.I.bs and configured my network info using the HostManager.app (in the 'Local...' menu)

After entering my network info I reboot the machine and it takes a long while to "mount remote filesystems" then it hangs entirely at "starting file service daemons".
After an hour or two I'll continue by pressing ^C but this ultimately leads to a blank screen with a mouse cursor.

To get back into the system again I have to boot using 'mach_kernel -s' and restore the network settings via the following commands:
rm -rf /etc/netinfo /etc/hostconfig
cd /usr/template/client/etc
cp -rp netinfo /etc
cp hostconfig /etc

Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong? Is there a way to disable these so-called remote filesystems or network file services?

Thanks.

EDIT:

OK I've found out that I might need to set the IRQ and port address etc.. would anyone know of a program like lspci but for NeXTSTEP and PCMCIA?

Try typing "-v" at the boot: prompt to boot in verbose mode.  This may help get around the black screen issue.  Also, check out these two documents and see if they contain info that will help you.
