After looking at the back of thousands of CD/DVD drives, it finally happened.

I scored a Pioneer SCSI DVD drive, model DVR-S201

Had to share.

Finally made it to Weird Stuff Warehouse in Sunnyvale.

Brought home some other PCI/AGP goodies; Rage PRO AGP video, G45+ Dual Head video, supported dual-port Intel NIC..

At the time of its release, it was one of the few (and expensive) drives that could write on "authoring" DVDs.  An authoring DVD was used as the master copy for commercial mass-duplicators.  Nowadays, you might as well just send your 4GB data over and many duplicators will not need this special master copy.

@itomato i have not searched lately if they are readily available, but i've got about a couple dozen blank authoring media for this drive.  let me know if you need to play around with a few.  my own drive is in storage.
