All,
I have an original 660MB Hard drive that I'm trying to save. I get media read errors from the disk when I try to install nextstep. I have a PC with an adaptec SCSI card I can use to test disks. Under windows XP I can create a partition and write to it with no issues. I tried reassigning blocks under nextstep but I seem to just be in a loop (reasb <device> <block> -r). Is there a way to reassign a whole sector? Can I do this somehow in windows?
Thanks,
Brian
There should be firmware diagnostics on the adaptec card that you can run from the PC's bios. Some of these are non-destructive, some destructive but may provide a means to detect bad blocks and get them remapped. If the 660MB isn't too old. But it sounds like this drive may be on the way out. "Saving" it may be sinking you later.
