I have a mono NeXTstation turbo (N1100) which boots up into the ROM monitor and looks for a non-existent network server. It never gats to a prompt.
Does anyone have any ideas how to log in?
Hit cmd + ~ to get to a prompt. Then try "bsd" at the prompt to boot from a scsi device. You can set this to default by setting the boot option from this prompt by typing "p"

Thanks barcher174 for the prompt reply, still can't get a prompt. By the way can you confirm the tilde key is the numeric keypad - on the NeXTstation keyboard?
I suspect the machine is setup for a network boot. How easy is it to get replacement software and presumably drives to connect?

Hello : Immediately After testing system goes to loading from disk hit command ~ (above 7 accountants keypad) takes you to a NeXT> type in p hit enter , it should return boot en? type in sd , default through questions at verbose boot no? type yes, that way you can see what is happening at boot.
When back at NeXT prompt power off then on and it should now try and boot from your scsi hard drive....
I'll be happy to help you get her up and running and have everything you need , I sell NeXT software , peripherals, ram and drives.... on EBay at computerpowwow and at my website blackholeinc.com

Hi Rob,
It gets as far as 'Still searching for parent network administration (NetInfo) server'
I assume the key below the spacebar labeled 'Command' is the command key. Pressing this key and the key above the 7 on the keypad results in a '=' being typed. The tilde key (extreme bottom right of main keyboard) does nothing.
I have put a screenshot on ImageUpload:
https://www.imageupload.co.uk/image/ZIb3See on the last line me trying every key along the top of the numeric keypad with the command key pressed.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Kingsley
Try doing a CONTROL C when it hangs up like that. When my cube is not connected to the network I got a process or two that hangs trying to resolve something on the network that isn't there.
You probably need to reset the netinfo settings. Boot into single user, mount your hard disk and then:
rm -rf /etc/netinfo /etc/hostconfig
