Got a non-ADB soundbox here. How do I open it? It seems like one can pull off the front cover but I do not want to destroy anything.

TIA, bob68

I'm not sure, but it feels as if underneath the two rubber feet located towards the front there might be screws..?

This is the correct answer. Lift up the 2 rubber feet in front. Remove those 2 screws and then everything comes apart.

Sorry, that's not true. This is a non-ADB full metal soundbox. There are no screws under the feet.

I tried to find info on it on the web but nothing so far. It is different from this type

http://www.ebay.com/itm/NOS-NeXT-SoundBox-Shell-kit-case-cover-inner-speaker-mount-logo-NON-ADB-/281463276698

as it has no markings on it and also no insets (I do not know the correct English word - the metal surface of the box is completely even).

Can you post a picture of the bottom?

Sure:

There once was a sticker on the bottom:

No markings etc. on the back:

There seems to be a clip or something in the gap. It has two of them on every edge of the front:

:D It came with a normal NeXTstation Color but the pieces where probably recompiled over time.

I had one of these apart years ago but I don't remember the details.  It may have been that the screws on the DB connector are actually holding the cover on and that the PCB is then screwed to the housing.

Ok, will try that. What type of Soundbox is this? Someone on the web talked about an "Original Soundbox".

100 points, I managed to open the Soundbox via the screws on the DB connector.

That is a weird construction I have to say:

Those "blades" (one of with I hold) where dangling around when I opened the case. Do they have to slide over the headphone / mic jacks?

Whats the serial number on the board? Mind taking a top view of the board as well?

Thanks
Brian

I have to say the internal construction of the Soundbox is a mess. Who constructed this, a trainee?

Yeah, these definitely feel like an afterthought. The board itself electrically looks like it matches the later revisions. The only thing I notice different are and an extra whole on the right side and the white next logo. Also the board appears to be more transparent. Like most things NeXT, it's different enough to be interesting but not a gold mine  :D
