Title: Soundbox NO SOUND - repair help
Post by: sdinet on November 23, 2015, 08:50:43 AM
Hey everyone, hope all is well and you are enjoying the Thanksgiving week!

Looking for some advice on repairing a non-ADB soundbox PCB board.  One day while using, I heard a loud pop and smelled plastic burning, and now the audio doesn't work.  I cant see any visible damage on the board, or even on any components.  I suspected the large capacitor, but that wasn't it.  Does anyone have any non-ADB schematics, or have any advice on which components to troubleshoot next?

Thanks!

You need to replace the large capacitor and the mono amplifier (The chip next to the speaker). I socket mine after replacement just in case. The amplifier is what made the burning smell. There is a non-conductive plastic sheet under the circuit board that can wear away under the large cap causing it to short. It could also be your speaker going bad causing the amp to blow. You want an 8ohm 5W speaker as a replacement.
