All,

I've posted a guide on the connections necessary to make a custom 13W3 Y-Cable on my site here:

It's a male connector on the cable. I was just reusing images.

I had a bunch of these cables made up once... something like 30 of them. I forget where I ordered them (cables unlimited?) but they can manufacture them pretty cheaply.

I would have an interest in this please let me know if you remember the vendor. Best Regards Rob Blessin

I predict its going to be extremely difficult to get the db19 connectors in any meaningful quantity.

I'm looking at going in with Steve Chamberlin well known in the Mac community on a production run of DB 19 connectors
I uploaded this file which he photoshop modified a DB 25 mechanical drawing to represent DB 19  http://www.nextcomputers.org/NeXTfiles/Docs/Hardware/db19male.pdf  , We need an engineer to take a look and see if he has it right as the last thing we would need is a broken connector , I may just send the manufacturer an example NeXT cable and custom cable to insure it . As a minimum production run would insure db 19 male connectors until the end of time lol but we think would be able to recoup our costs.... any thoughts?

How many are you looking to produce?

Steve said minimum runs were 10,000 obviously that is a boatload , he was quoted .29 each and $4200 for the retooling which brings our average cost including shipping to about .80 and then the plan was to resell them from $2 to $4 to recoup costs . It's hard to gage how much pent up demand let alone future demand . I'm getting a ton of Request for quotes and mechanical drawings but the hope is to find a manufacturer that doesn't need to retool and has the old template. I picture a cad cam app that is fluid in a perfect world that would be able to change D sub connectors production runs  on the fly .... I will probably send the manufacturer and example connector and original cable or high def photos so we are on the same page.

I had a bunch made for something like $50 each, and I bought about 50 of them. Let me see if I can dig up the order.

I didn't have trouble with the DB19 connector... seemed to be pretty common on a lot of older devices.

I ordered them from here. Might be a bit more expensive now but I think you can find someone who will do small lots.

I updated the 19 pin connector to be the male version to avoid confusion. If anyone finds a cheap source for the 19pin hoods let me know. I have a small stash of the connectors, but no hoods.

I looked through some things in my collection with DB-19 connectors to try to identify who made them "back in the day" since those companies would be the ones who might still have tooling.  Out of all the ones I could find with discernible manufacturer ID, all were made by JAE (Japan Aviation Electronics, still in business) or AMP (after a series of acquisitions now known as TE Connectivity).  I don't know who made the DB-19s that NeXT actually used, the only markings on my NeXT monitor cable's connectors are pin positions, and single letters that appear to be mold cavity markings.

Other connector makers that were in business back then and made D-Sub connectors (but I'm not sure if they ever made 19 position ones) include Cinch, Amphenol, and Molex.  I think I've seen at least one Molex DB-19 but I could be wrong.

FWIW. I found one of the cables I had made up by DataPro with the attached label on the bag. They may still be able to make these.
