My question might be hard to answer because as far as I know theres no real registry of 3rd party apps made for NeXT but anyone got any rough guess for how many apps where made for NeXT total - I'm talk for NeXTSTEP or OpenStep?

These are all merely guesses, based 20 years of working with and collecting NeXTs, though all of that time is slightly past the prime for NeXT of course.

If you're talking commercial, off the shelf, purchasable applications, under 1000 for certain, probably even way under 500.  I've been accumulating for a long time, and I only have a few dozen.

Shareware/freeware written specifically for NeXTSTEP/OPENSTEP?  Probably 2x-5x whatever the above number is.

Lots of CLI or X-Window open source applications were (and still are being) ported to the platform.  Too many to keep track of, and probably not what you were thinking of.

One big advantage was the (relative for the time) ease of creating custom GUI applications.  So there were lots of "Enterprise" applications written.  One-offs, things meant for internal use only.  I bet there were at least 10x as many of those written as typical commercially available pieces of software.  And there'd be no way to know that number.

Thank you for your information - it was significantly more info than I expected and really useful. You know a lot about NeXT products and I find that really respectiable.
