So you may have noticed I've been on a restoration binge recently. I'm trying to consolidate my more interesting pieces and begin to thin some of the remainder. I recapped an original 330mb HDD to accompany my prototype cube and installed it to find this:

I then got it to display this:

I was more than a little disappointed. I checked each RAM stick and everything came up fine. Looking at the board there was heavy corrosion near the RAM modules due to a leaking cap (220uF). Those had long been replaced, but I was suspicious of the components around it. Unfortunately I forgot the true before pic, but here is a pic with a buffer chip and resistor package removed:

The green stuff is a solder mask pen. Between the pins there were traces that were rotted out. I repaired them and then put the mask over them so they wouldn't bridge when I replaced the chips. I believe the buffer chip was also bad.  I have a 68040 donor board which I use to salvage hard to find parts like these. Here is the after pic:

And.. It Worked!!
