Hello All,
As I miss so much next station and cube and more precisely the nextstep gui look'n'feel that I have never found elsewhere. After a short successful install of "previous" I was wondering if it would be possible to redesign (or reverse engineer) a factory plant building next systems (pizza boxes and cube).
I am sure there will/would be legal issues with next/apple but imagine a new way to crowd fund this idea... (indie gogo is full of products plant factory).
Am I a lonely dreamer?
Cheers.

Jim

Something magical about dragging new app boxes into a dock and they stick there for later use.  I much prefer the NeXTSTEP dock to OS X or other style docks.  I used to have Fiend in mine with sound affect on so it roared at me when clicked.  ;-)

Is the dream here to make workstations with the processing power and hardware of current systems or to try and source rare vintage components to recreate the production line?
I do agree - I've had troubles with making Previous work from time to time - but if you persist or find a stable version - because I find sometimes it's just a matter of trying a different version - Previous will work for you eventually. Crowd funding a new NeXT workstation would be amazing but not cheap - and I'm not sure there is enough interest to gain enough financial support.
If anyone was the skills to make it a reality I'll put in my pre-order now - inbox me

Hi there,
So much resurection of old systems (I am thinking of NeXT and also Smalltalk more on object-arts.com which opensourced their IDE). Seems like everything to be free is the way to go :). As for me I launched a website which would gather the NeXT community around NeXT and parapharnelia.
My goal is to sell/distribute software which can/will be soon public domain (improv, the excellent framemaker...) as well as hardware (primarily pentium all configured with either NS3.3 or OS4.2). I have a few ones that I bought a while ago for that goal. Ebay will be very handy for selling such systems.
Leave me your thoughts either pm or reply in the forum.
you can think of the site as a ghost of : https://www.levenez.com/NeXTSTEP
mine is : //www.TXeN.fr
Enjoy, and all the best
