Hi, I acquired a NeXTcube in very good condition. :D
I would like the outside to be perfect. It has some very minor scratches / paint rub offs. Is it advisable to retouch these with paint? Or do I have to paint the whole thing?
Where can I get the paint (in Europe)?
TIA

Nitro dug up the original paint spec about ten years ago and was able to have the local paint shop batch a brand new can.
You can probably have it made now in much smaller sample batches.
Sorry for not doing my homework. I found this info on the forum after I posted my questions.
What I did not understand is the usage of the 600T and 600S(mooth) paint. Are they mixed or used for different parts?
Off the top of my head I got no idea.

Sherwin Williams will mix it for you , it is special order !

I'm guessing that getting the custom color is necessary, but not sufficient, for getting good results... has anyone taken a cube to a car body shop and had them spray it professionally? Just curious...

The can displayed above has both paint types on the label which confuses me. In the files section of the forum and on the net there are separate docs available for 600T and 600S paint. How can they be in one can?
And here
http://www.johnmiranda.com/next/_DSC8923.jpg I see a can with only "600T" written on it.
That's why I'm asking.

Hi bob68,
I see you are from good old Europe like myself.
I can tell you last year I tried to get this paint for restoring my cube, so I reached the supplier with the same request.
Feedback was that, unfortunately, this paint is not available in Europe and due to safety restrictions on shipping overseas by plane chemicals, paints, batteries and basically whatever else comes to your mind except human payload, they cannot import it from US.
If you're luckier than myself in putting your hands on some cans, please let me know since I would also be interested, even though, let me say, I kind of like the "love marks" on my cube case. In the end it's 25+ year old stuff...
Paolo
Ciao Paolo.

Did you talk to one of the European subsidiaries of Sherwin Williams? They have some in Germany and Italy for example.
Best, bobo68
Without going to look and confirm, it seems to me the texture of the ribbed portion of the case is different than the rest. Perhaps the difference between the smooth and the not-so-smooth (semi-gloss)?
In the real world, I don't know if it makes a huge difference unless you are being very meticulous in your restoration.
Hi Bobo,
I got in contact with Sherwin Williams Italy via their web site. Very kindly they reached me back on the phone and explained me the situation as is summarised in my previous post.
Maybe in Germany it's somehow easier to import it, but unfortunately in Italy that was it.
