Hello NeXT Community:

I think I'm close to having the new version 6 card working but hoping you can help troubleshoot what is causing the eror  which repeats over and over , I'm getting as it starts to boot.
NeXT Turbo Color V74 Rom Chip
1) I have a clean install of Openstep 4.2 on an 8Gb MicroSD set up with 4 2gb partitions , this works great for all NeXT Hardware using the earlier version of the scsi sd 5.0 card with 4.6 flash
2) The Config8.xml file attached  is what I use 512 , 139 and 4  sectors per track and it works
3) I've set same disk driver parameters for the new version 6 card in confignew.xml
4) Matched the  settings in both cards and saved to device
5)   Here is my youtube video showing the boot process and errors https://youtu.be/1yKEHTWeG5A

Check the you tube video for errors!

Any help appreciated and I've forwarded this to Mik McMaster as well!
Best Regards Rob Blessin

yes 6.0.13

Cool hopefully this response from Mike will resolve it , I'll update later but this is a faster MicroSD solution for NeXT !

Hi Rob,

The comment from Mike Perka on the youtube video is spot on - it's a
parity error. The config8.xml file has enabled parity checking,
whereas it's turned off in confignew.xml.  Turn on the parity option
and see if it makes a difference.

... however, it may not help. All that does is detect errors, not fix them.

A few people have had this problem. It can be resolved easily, but it
involves a soldering iron. Do you have some very basic soldering
experience ? All that's needed is a capacitor between the "5V" and
"GND" pins of header P404. (Capacitor value between 100uF to 1000uF,
and 10V or higher. The exact value isn't important. eg.

The next batch of boards has resolved this problem, and I should have
them next week. I can arrange to swap your board for one which already
has the capacitor on it if you're unable to solder it.

Regards,
Michael.

Hello NeXT Community: Legend in my own mind , so the key is to have a molex 4 pin connector to floppy ide power connector and it works before I had it powering from the scsi cable which works on the version 5 card the version 6 card draws more power so a power cable and connector is needed!  Boom

Are there some advanteges against V5 hardware? AFAIK the NeXT doesn't support synchronous transfers.

see http://www.codesrc.com/mediawiki/index.php?title=SCSI2SD

I think, there are some:

Full-Size SD slot. This makes it much easier to develop faceplates for external access.

Better performance. The hardware supports synchronous transfers at 10MB/s.

Access to the data via USB. The SCSI2SD drives will appear when connected to a PC via USB.

Superior noise resistance to deal with poor termination and poor cabling.

Integrated terminator, now enabled via software configuration

Plus I think that v6 finally stores the configuration ("drives", geometry, ...) on the SD cards which is much more logical to me than storing it on the SCSI2SD device.
