Here is a piece of history... What is more interestting is:
QuoteYou can see the NeXT inventory sticker - but the data and applications on the hard drive were found INTACT! You will not find any personal stuff - but there are some unusual applications that I haven't seen before such as XNeXT. You will have explore this on your own, as I have not tested each file and application. Some installation of the apps may be required - but the .tar files are there on the drive

Good luck with that one .... NeXT and cheap do not seem to go together, unless by cheap you mean a couple of hundred dollars.  If you want a working cube system, it looks like you are gonna be in the $500 and up range, from what people have been paying.  Still a lot less than it was new, but more than I can justify spending.  I just want to get my 2 slabs working, and that will be enough.  Not that I will turn down a working cube if the right price comes up.

This one was an exception I would say, how many times have you seen products that were actually asset tagged from Next Computer up for sale??

That is true, the tags do add "provenance", and would definately increase the  historical value to a collector.

Where are you based and how much is cheap?.  I know a friend of mine who lives in the UK but has a few of them at his house in the US (NYC).

I think they are 030, which is all you're gonna get anyway if you want a cheap one.

With complete systems going for hundreds to thousands of dollars, I really do not know what an 030 cube is worth.  I would guess that I am looking in the $50-$75 range, not including shipping, depending on the specs.

Title: Not the only one with an asset tag
Post by: john on November 09, 2006, 04:14:41 PM
I used a 33Mhz Cube and a few slabs networked for a few years then somehow picked up a 030 qube it is asset taged next.

Wait for it some of the software on it is registered to Steve Jobs.

It still has next step 1 on it but the optical drive is missing.

I sort of Visualise Steve bringing it over when they opened the UK office
it was then sold on to a university

I suppose I should get and optical drive for it.

Whoa, registered to Jobs?  Piece of history right there.  You should get that appraised.

Who really cares if the cube came out of NeXT.

Then again all cubes came out of neXT

When NeXT had the big auction in 1993, a lot of the computers that were sold that day had the NeXT asset tag.

I have had some of the NeXT asset tag equipment over the years. I might even have some of it left.

Since the tags were usually on the rear cover, it was easy to make a cube that supposedly came out of NeXT?

Not in this case. There was NO question about where that particular Cube [the original subject of this thread] had been. It was all there - on the hard drive. I should know - I sold it

I would never copy anything that I didn't have a license for.
