Hello NeXT Community: I'm getting exception 3 errors on Color station motherboards anyone know what they are , they all have old caps. Best Regards Rob Blessin
Can you tell what it prints exactly? Is it printed during kernel panics or on the ROM monitor?
Exception 3 is address error, meaning that the processor attempts to fetch an instruction from an odd address.
I've fixed a few logic boards with this condition by replacing the caps.
Also make sure you are populating the RAM in the right slot order. Slot zero is towards the edge of the board.
Hello Andreas and Brian: I was able to troubleshoot and identify the problem.
The key was having a separate NeXT slab .
As soon as I plugged the MicroSD into it with the same exception 3 error coming up I suspected the build image on the SD was bad.
I did a fresh DD image and it works. So I'm guessing anything with an exception 3 error has to do with either failing caps or a faulty hard drive or in this case a faulty microsd install.
So you we're right Andreas , the image was corrupt and Brian I think the first board has a failing cap as I see electrolytic fluid / My guess is the failing cap caused intermitant signals when the sd was booting probably corrupting the install on the sd , may be an electrical surge . I'm also guessing that this combo problem probably hoses a lot of hard drives just a theory.
Problem solved as it now boots on the color motherboards as well ... yeah. Thanks for your help!
PS I have those Color Turbo Boards I need to send you Brian, I'm going test them one more time and write notes.
