Today I received my copy of a wonderfull NeXT book from Italy:
"Inside NeXT"
Guide to Black Hardware
The quality is superb and it was made with love from the author. It is a wonderfull book!
The first edition of this book was printed in a limited editon (only 50 copies, only in Italian language: a small edition for italian enthusiasts of NeXT Computers).
But the author (Luciano) wrote me, that he is willing to make an international version (in english) of the book if he has enough international bookings!
The international version of the book will be translated by an interpreter, will have a hard cover and a few more pages (dedicated to repairs of the NeXTstation). To cover the printing costs of an English version it needs about 40 or 50 orders of the book.
So if You are interested, send me a PM with You email-Adress and I will pass this to Luciano.

Hello NeXT Community: I also just sent an email to Luciano offering to buy 30 copies for distribution here in advance if the translated version and may be help with the translation. My sister is fluent in Italian , she and her lived in Italy for 6 years, I have not told Luciano yet as this is all fluid . So my thought is he would be able to ship them here than I would turn around and ship them US Media or other preference mail. I'm not sure of the list price but we will cross that bridge when we come to it and I won't mark it up much just enough to cover expenses. :) Best regards Rob

Hello NeXT Community: So I took a leap of faith and paid up front for 30 copies of the book , which he has signed and dated . From my understanding his quote including shipping = $79 USD for individual book purchases so my plan is to offer them to you in the US at $75 which will include Sturdy packaging and ~ $18.50 USPS Priority Mail shipping. $75 Total
I refuse to use Media mail after they literally destroyed a package and disposed of it with no option to recover. I also take them directly to the main post office and wait in line to minimize handling.
This should also cover any import fee's and paypal expenses,
I think it is a fair deal as ordering direct was $79 and they will go quickly from my understanding he is sold out also the difference keeps the lights on here.
I have 2 people on the wait list, I'll send out a paypal invoice for payment and from my understanding the books are on the way.
My Guess is to Canada will run an extra $10 to $20 USD which is $1000 Canadian (just kidding).

Got my copy today. WOW! I am completely blown away. I like that it's not only a history of NeXT, but also a history of our collaboration on this board. It has all the value of an encyclopedia combined with the attachment/nostalgia of a high school year book. I love it!

Just picked this book up from Rob. It's very well done and a great walk down memory lane. Made me miss my color slab I sold back in the mid-90s.

I bought one and have now finished reading it. It's a very nice book! What I did not expect was the ending of approx. 25 pages of repairs (recapping of different motherboards and accessories, inclunding mechanical workings on the MO-drive and the NeXT laser printer), which was a nice touch. The photos are excellent and the book is very nicely put together. The chapters "Rarity / Prototypes" and "Third-Party Products" were intriguing.
My only small critiques; the front cover being mostly black is somewhat easily stained. Although the book's topic is "A Guide to the Black Hardware" I would've liked to see even just a bit more about Steve Jobs (perhaps on how he left Apple and came to found NeXT in the first place) and perhaps on the NeXTstep OS itself (other than the included chapter titled "Keith Ohlfs' GUI". Also even just a couple of more software previews might have been nice, like the two-page "Daydream Mac Emulator" chapter (perhpas one or two other emulator packages like the SoftPC, to keep the topic around hardware?).
All in all, a very worthy purchase!

I got it as a Christmas present. I devoured it, with passion !
I noticed some errors or forgetfulness but it is a very beautiful book !
I could give some clarifications and additional information on the audio and DSP devices that were not listed in the book ... for a next revision :wink:
Here are some pictures, I came out of the reserve one of my NeXT cubes for that, and it still works :D
I am very happy that some of my photos (about ISPW) are in this book :

You have to tinker with the OS so that peripherals are recognized, and install a patch. It's not that simple. I'm in the process of completely rewriting this story to help Luciano with his new book. As a result, I've got my cubes out again and I've got to turn the whole thing back on. I think it'll come back. If not, I'll have to dig through my archives...

My family also wanted to thank everyone for their kind support and condolences in my dad's recent passing from Cancer on August 5th, he enjoyed many road trips through the years picking up NeXT hardware :) He lived a good long life to 89 and married to my mom for 66 years she is 86.
Hence the radio silence from me, I'm starting to get back to work, helps me cope as I've been traveling back and forth to Denver, time will help us heal for our family. My replacement hip surgery was rescheduled for September 26 and my mom's hip Surgery went well, he hung for her to make sure all went well. He was not only my dad but a great friend in life and many of you new him or may have met him as well. He had over 30,000 hours flying for United Airlines . Enough said.
