Title: Seeking Donation NeXT Cube for Vintage Computer Museum NJ
Post by: Rob Blessin Black Hole on February 24, 2018, 01:40:21 AM
Hello NeXT Community:

I'm posting on behalf of Evan Koblentz

The Vintage Computer Federation museum in NJ would like to add a cube to our permanent display. Unfortunately we don't own one. We have two slabs but they are not as historic as the cube. Does anybody have a cube they'd consider donating? (We are a proper 501(c)(3) non-profit.)

Feel free to PM me and I'll forward your information to him or you can reach him on faceboook below link.!

I'm donating some stuff as well looks like a cool museum

Thank you Rob. Glad to be here among fellow NeXT enthusiasts!

Many of you already know about VCF. We're the people who operate the Vintage Computer Forum. We also lead the Vintage Computer Festival event series (VCF East, VCF West, VCF Pacific Northwest.)

We're a national non-profit. Our museum is located in New Jersey because that's where our founders reside and where affordable space was available. Our collection of historic computing artifacts is the largest and most diverse on the east coast. We do everything -- 1950s vacuum-tube mainframes, 1960s minicomputers, 1970s hobby machines, 1980s corporate desktops, pioneering 90s tech, you name it. And we focus on the hands-on imperative! We routinely give visitors hands-on demos of micros and minis. Right now we're working on our biggest restoration ever -- a 1965 Sperry-Rand UNIVAC mainframe intended for use on a U.S. Navy destroyer.

Anyway, we recently decided to expand the microcomputing section of our museum. Specifically we would like to put a NeXT into our permanent display (vs. our vast storage warehouse).

We own two slabs. One is fully working and currently in our museum on temporary display. The other is close to working. We also have a printer and a full set of disks and manuals.

But we'd rather display a cube because it is more historic... if only we had one!

We would happily accept a good-condition cube donation from anywhere. (We do not purchase artifacts, but we could pay for the shipping.) All donations are tax-deductible, and we happily include a sign thanking the benefactors for their gift, unless they prefer to remain anonymous.

Of course, everyone is welcome to visit us! We are open almost every weekend. We're also open on weekdays by appointment.

We hope to acquire a cube in time for our next big event, which is Vintage Computer Festival East XIII, May 18-20 at the museum.

Feel free to reach me via PM or directly by email: evan@vcfed.org. And just to emphasize: this is not for a private collection or any commercial endeavor. We're strictly an IRS-sanctioned charity. We are led by and for hobbyists.

Thank you,
-Evan Koblentz
