Hello all!
I am someone who has been interested in vintage technology and its history for well over a decade now. That said only in the recent years have I been pushing to get myself into related communities and hunting down some fun hardware.
I am indeed aware of the VCF Museum up north from me and have attended my first VCF East last year (with a promise of being there every year now knowing what I was missing out on!) I am still new to that community but I am eager to meet with other enthusiasts and collectors. Its so great to know I am not the only one around here with said interests!
As for why I am here? It's simple really, I have a a "complete" mono slab setup in my ownership. Something that honestly I never thought I would get considering how highly valued they are on certain markets and the history that is attached to it. It was one of my "Holy Grail" setups to have a NeXT system in my collection. A small collection mind but a growing one with the resources and luck that I have been able to have recently. I figured with finally acquiring such hardware I should make my way here to be part of the community! I have so many thoughts and ideas on what I can do with my Slab including but not limited to possibly looking at making some new software for fun.
Besides that my interest in Vintage tech is mostly on the end of Computers but is not limited to that. My particular interest as of current is obtaining different kinds of Unix based workstations and comparing their use/operating environments. The only other Unix based workstation I have is a SGI Indy which needs serious repair, but I plan on obtaining more different kinds in the future. Aside from that if I can get my hands on it and its of interest to my hobby, you bet I will try to get on it!
Finally, I hope to get the most of my NeXT with such a community dedicated to the hardware and software. I am already eyeing some hardware upgrades down the road such as maxing out my RAM with 32mb and getting a scsi CD drive to use CD's with. The Slab I have now already has a scsi2sd board which the previous owner had (he was a collector himself apparently) and came with some documentation as well which will be so much fun to read through!
I can post an imgur link of the pictures I have of it so far including the internals but I will only do so if asked/allowed. I do not want to overstep my boundaries with my intro post!
Thank you all for having me here! :D
