I would like to make fresh install os NS 3.3 and OS4.2 but the floppy disk are mostly unreadable.

Did any one try to replace floppy drive with other device, maybe just like HcX floppy emulator, or Gotek ?

The Gotek works great with the FlashFloppy firmware from Github. https://github.com/keirf/FlashFloppy

I use mine with the OLED display connected.

The FlashFloppy project documentation show which models of the Gotek it's compatible with: https://github.com/keirf/FlashFloppy/wiki/Gotek-Compatibility

I bet you could also get 2.88 MB floppy support into it.

For what it's worth I use the HxC device from Lotarek. Works just fine with the Openstep floppy images.

Did you try and boot start the install directly from the cdrom drive bsd(n,0,0)sdmach rootdev=sdna where is n= scsi id jumper setting for the cdrom drive , set it to 6. Best regards Rob Blessin

There is a CD-ROM boot disk that you can install directly from the CD-ROM.

Can anyone tell me how they got the HxC working with NextStep?

I'm very interested in running Lisp on it but unfortunately it doesn't have Allegro Lisp installed.  Another user kindly pointed me to floppy disk images for Allegro CL at https://fsck.technology/software/NeXT/NeXTSTEP Applications/Allegro CL 3.1/

Not having much expertise with the Previous emulator, I was under the impression you could load floppy images in the SCSI config panel before boot and they would then be available when Previous starts. However, when I try this, I get a message in NextStep that says the SCSI disk is unreadable. Not having much luck with that, I connected an HxC to my Turbo Slab, but when trying to convert the floppy images to work with the HxC, the HxC software says "Load error! Read file error!", so I have not been able to try the HxC.

What is the best way to work with these floppy images? I have a floppy drive on my Slab and it works. I recently replaced the SCSI HD with a SCSI2SD and dd'd a copy of NextStep 3.3 on it. It boots from this and seems to work well. If I could get the floppies installed on a copy of 3.3 in Previous, it seems like it would be trivial to again dd this HD image on to an SD card to use in the SCSI2SD and I'd be finished. Alternatively, I could possibly install the images via an HxC if that is known to work on the NextStation. Is there another way to maybe get these images on to actual floppies and install via the floppy drive?

I did enable networking on my Slab and FTP'd the Allegro images to the Slab.  I thought maybe I'd dd the floppy images to actual floppies, but the floppy images appear to require 2.88mb floppies and I don't seem to have any,

Any input on how how to work with the floppy images is appreciated.

Thanks,

Win
