SoftPc with windows

I had a bad day, after an HD failure, and recovery I had lost my SoftPc app, I found a copy on a local and I had on my NeXT HDD backups, but I lost my license code and license number

online I found this two codes (below) but none worked, I would like to know if someone on the forums has a valid code

Which version of Soft PC do you have installed? It should say in Preferences info panel.

Good news

I fund a good copy of SoftPC with the correct license here https://www.macintoshrepository.org/662-softpc-for-nextstep

so if anyone wants to try and enjoy Windows 3.1 :)

but the bad news is that in my system as I had the SW before a file is missing, SoftPC is trying to look for the hard_drive.hdf and I did try to fi the issue but no luck so far

so I would like to know if any here in the forums want to try the soft pc on a black HW and please locate the .hdf file and post the contents so I can see if I can make my works :)

I bought it for $300 in 1993.
I opened license string to www.nextcube.org
It should be work!
I don't understand why does'nt work.

Hi,

as far as I remember the licenses for SoftPC were bound to a specific hardware ID. You had a temporary key to test it, and then generated an ID code from inside SoftPC to receive the final key for your hardware.

Not sure which hardware IDs are used for identification, but for sure they are using the mac address of the network card, maybe some others as well.

Anyone know where SoftPC saves it's configuration? I've tried to install it, but apparently I entered the licenses wrong as the option to create a Windows drive is inactive. I've tried to change the license keys but the option is still out, and re-installing SoftPC does not seem to reset all settings as it doesn't ask about the keys again. Is there a hidden preferences file somewhere?

There are the hidden file ".spcprofile" and the license file "licdata" in SoftPC.app folder.

Maybe moving either of this files out of the way may help?
