So what kind of specifications are to fullfill in order to bring ram to the Station. I know they support SIM RAM with 30 pins (right?) but are there further limitations like them needing to be installed in pairs or having to be the same size?
Thanks but unfortunately that doesn't cover my question as
Quote from: "blackcube"Some of the old non-Turbo stations will only handle 32mb. 8 slots of 30 pin simms 4x8 for a maximum of 32mb.
is the only statement there regarding my question.
It would seem difficult to obtain several of these 4 mb modules so what about a combination of 1 mb modules (i still got 4 of these) and bigger ones?
What are the system requirements for nextstep anyway?

No problem at all, i have a few machines with 20MB running. In some cases memory with parity checking will lead in trouble (kernel panic) so be shure to get modules with 8 instead 9 circuits.

From the feeling 32MB was too small for the latest 3.3 or 4.2 OS versions, maybe a 3.0 install is the right one for this machines.
Better take a look for Turbo machines if you have leaked blood :-), they have a faster memeory interface than the old stations and will fit 128MB RAM with regulary PS2 72 PIN SIMMs. (even EDO works fine instead FPM)
Had a conventional Station runnig with 16 mb and NeXTStep 3.3, thought it was fine - since i don't use it for "real" work anyway.
It's just for fun so the question more accurate should be how much NS needs to start up at all.
Turbo Station sure would be fun but i never saw an offer on such an unit since i've been looking for NeXT Stuff - couldn't afford it anyway (probably)
