Hi all,
We have found a NeXT Cube buried in our admin's shelf, luckily one with a dimension board and a sound box, unfortunately one without the DB19 cable. We are now trying to resurrect the Cube.
Thus, we are trying to solder our own DB19 cable. We have already received the DB19 connectors and had a look at the pinout.¹ We would like to re-use an old VGA cable. Unfortunately, the VGA cable has fewer data lines (9) than the NeXT cable (12 ... 11 without ADB). Hence, my question is: if we just want to use the soundbox to connect keyboard, mouse and possibly audio to the Cube, do we need all strands? Or the other way around: which strands are exclusively required by the MegaPixel display and could be omitted for our use case?

It's safe to omit:
2. -12V
7. ADB
8. VSYNC
9. HSYNC
10. VIDEO
12. -12V
You can also combine some of the GND pins and be OK.
Keyboard only requires:
3. MON CLK
4. MON DATA OUT
5. MON DATA IN
6. MON PWR SWITCH
+12V and GND.
Hello Robert: You may have just pinged me on eBay .... I have an original NeXT DB19 to DB19 cable 18' that will work for connecting the soundbox to the cube for $59 and $8 Shipping :) I also have an original NeXT 18" DB19 cable where the connectors are buggered for $20 where you can try a DIY repair.
