Title: Print some documents?
Post by: gregor on April 22, 2020, 10:57:52 PM
I have a NeXT station that I used to create some TopDraw/Appsoft Draw documents some years ago.. Since my NeXT laser printer died, I have no way to print these sheets out. I thought I would throw it out there to anyone who has a working NeXT laser printer to print about 10 pages for me?
I spoke to Rob and he has a few candidates that might be operational, but I'd hate to pay the shipping and find out it's a dud.
I can email or Google Drive the Draw files to anyone who might be able and willing to help. I would obviously pay postage to get them.

TIA,
gregor

Hi Gregor,

if you do not find a friendly NeXT print (service), you could also try "printing" your documents into a PS or even PDF file and then print those on some modern systems. Possible font issues should be solvable.

Print panel option "save as PDF" or "convert to PDF" (with Frank Siegerts PStill installed) should provide best PDF export option.

Greetings

Thanks for the suggestion! I never stopped to consider a more modern Postscript capable printer to do the job. Evidently Lexmark makes several that are not prohibitively expensive and so I'll go on the hunt for one locally or perhaps buy one online (refurbed).  I think I even have an HP Jet Direct EX lying around somewhere.

Cool!!

PS: I DO miss my trusty NeXT laser printer, though.....

You can print on just about any printer from a NeXT if you set up a CUPS server on another computer on your network, then let CUPS translate PS to whatever your printer wants.  I have my NeXTs printing to a Canon MF269dw flawlessly.
