Hello NeXT Community: I uploaded the Sbook software and source code here
http://www.nextcomputers.org/NeXTfiles/Software/New_Ports/sbookz/Any thoughts much appreciated , I think it is cool :) ?
I think there is an early Windows port and early OSX port .
My thought is with our pool of amazing NeXT/everything developers , we would be able to upgrade Sbook to support current versions of Windows and MAC OSX and make it available on the app stores with any proceeds going back to support the NeXTcomputers.org forums (it would be cool and gives you all something to tinker with .)
My pipe dream would be to have Apple release the source code for NeXTstep and Openstep to me (us) and then release it free to the world kind of like the Linux philosophy , I have the updated rights to reproduce and maintain NeXTSTEP and Openstep from Apple legal , it took quite a bit of effort so I have ISO's available for cheap or my fun scsi2sd loaded with apps iso on my eBay store:). It helps keep the lights on here and gives you lots of fun stuff to do on your NeXT plus eliminates the noisy scsi drives. I know there are also sites that have NeXT ISO's available for download and I have no objection at all so many years have passed. I'm happy to see more and more people seeing how good the NeXT operating system and developer tool environment really was and is. Incredible how much functionaity the NeXT apps can do with in the footprint of a few floppy disks especially in contrast to todays apps.

Rob:
I found the SBook source code that Simson Garfinkel sent me a few years back. He said to do with it whatever I pleased. It's in a tar.gz file, so if you like I can send you the file if you have someone that could port it over to OSX or even IOS. As I remember there was an OSX version in the past, but later versions of OSX would break it. Would be a killer app for the iPad or iPhone.

SBook Contact Manager
SBook was a uniquely flexible, intelligent personal contact management tool for business professionals. Its fast, smart searching allowed you to structure and maintain your contact information in any way you like. SBook automatically recognized phone numbers, postal addresses, and email addresses. It knew the difference between fax and voice numbers and could dial either with a single click of the mouse. Once you had built your contact database, SBook could print your list onto a wide range of standard mailing labels or it could print out envelopes complete with postal barcodes for faster delivery. SBook even let you log each phone call, fax, and letter you send.

SBook was an integrated address book and directory database for NEXTSTEP enterprise customers. It held directory information for employees, customers, and other contacts. SBook's reformat interface allowed users to view several addresses, phone numbers, or email addresses in a single entry. SBook was integrated with Pencil Me In, their group scheduling application on NEXTSTEP.
SBook's intelligence was built in: it automatically recognized phone numbers, postal addresses, and email addresses as you type them in. It knew the difference between fax and voice numbers, so you could send faxes or place phone calls with a single click of the mouse. Once you've built up a directory database, SBook could print your list onto standard mailing labels or individual envelopes, complete with postal bar codes for faster delivery.
