I've installed OPENSTEP 4.2 with Patch4 on my IBM ThinkPad 760XL and installed the drivers to get colour graphics and sound, however I can't use the PIIX EIDE driver on this system, it says it cannot find the hardware. Consequently, I have to fall back to the regular EIDE driver which is very slow.
This ThinkPad uses the Intel 430MX chipset, is that not supported by the PIIX driver? I thought all Intel 4x0xx chipsets would be compatible? Bus mastering on this laptop does work on Windows with the Windows 98 IDE driver, so this looks like an OPENSTEP driver software quirk.
FWIW on my Openstep VM I use the PIIX EIDE Driver.
I also have the Intel 824x0 PCI host Bridge and PCI Bus Support devices installed as well.

Yes, also works for me in a VM using VMware, but not on the real ThinkPad hardware.
I've built a desktop using a Compaq Deskpro with the 440BX chipset and it seems to be working there (any way to check this other than looking at the boot messages or /usr/adm/messages)?
