Spent the last few days looking at a sick turbo cube motherboard. On boot I would get the following:
Exception #2 (0x8) at pc 0x1008f0c sp 0xc03f5d8
faultaddr 0x2106006
There is mention of this exact problem in the newsgroups but no solution. Since the problem was happening directly after the next logo I assumed it was memory related. It was not. Unfortunately that wrong assumption lead me to replace both ASICs and the CPU (soldered)... I noticed a brief flash before the exception after enabling all tests in the ROM monitor. I used the slow motion capture on my iphone and found that it was actually the POST screen (I got maybe 1 or 2 frames) failing just before the ethernet test is printed. So long story short it was the AT&T ethernet chip. Hope this saves someone some trouble.
Interesting info - thank you! I have a TurboColor motherboard that I received from Rob years ago that exhibited similar behaviour. Where did you source the replacement AT&T chip? I did see some on eBay but not in single quantities.
I bought a few a couple years ago. Not sure anyone will have single quantities. The ones on ebay right now are not a bad deal, just ordered a batch for safe keeping.
Thank you. I will pick a few up and rework the motherboard. I will report back if that fixes the issue.
