greetings
I need some help connecting to a NeXTSTEP PC; It's a Dell machine specially fitted out to run NeXTSTEP 3.3. I used it ages ago, and now I just want to get stuff off it. It boots and all is well, system wise. If I connect an ethernet cable between it and a mac laptop (older model that still has FTP), I can ping it OK by IP number. Similarly, it can ping the mac OK, by IP number (which I have fixed manually). But FTP in either direction just comes back with "connection refused".
Is there some way to diagnose why FTP is refusing connections? In either direction? Do I have to enable FTP somehow? (It does run at the command line ok).
Is there a log file (on either end) that might say why it refuses to connect?
Other ideas? I'd rather not take the machine apart ...
Thanks in advance! Long live NeXT!

I wanted to close the loop on this one, since the same conversation was happening on a Facebook group. Stephen was able to get things working by nuking previous network information (per Rob's PDF (
http://www.nextcomputers.org/NeXTfiles/Docs/TjLs_Cable_Modem_Guide.pdf)) and manually starting an old school FTP server on a Mac running 10.6. This machine is being re-homed to live a new life!
