Title: How to make clean install with no external drive
Post by: BillAnderson on September 23, 2020, 07:50:09 PM
I would like to make a clean install of Nextstep 3.3 on a SCSI2SD drive, but I have no external drive. Any suggestions? Can I pop the SD out and run BuildDisk (i doubt it) or can I format a disk from the bootloader console?
Thank you!

Hello Bill: One way to do it is install Previous on a Mac ,

Install NeXTSTEP 3.3 into Previous.

DD the Previous drive image with NeXTSTEP on it to your SD card reader on the Mac using Terminal,

Take the SD Card and Boot the scsi2SD with clean NeXTSTEP 3.3 Image on your NeXT.

Best Regards Rob Blessin

Hello Bill: Also make sure the  config file = XML file on your scsi2sd matches the footprint of the Previous 3.3 Drive , that way it should boot cleanly without having to run fsck or having errors in Console ;). Best Regards Rob

Thanks Rob! I think that explains some odd errors when I booted my physical drive after copying.

I have to say, it was quite satisfying to get this working.
