Title: Openstep - resetting password & user name
Post by: Mattman on August 02, 2021, 04:26:00 AM
Hi guys, I am a newby, found a Next Step Turbo in my dads garage - now trying to bring it back to life again. I managed to reset the password, like one of you described it in one thread. It worked fine. But I still couldn't figure out the user name. Is it possible to reset also the User Name? Or is there an other solution? Hope someone can help me. Kind regards! Matt

Hello Mattman: This should help you it is the NeXT Network and system administration manual

User ...

You may have it intalled on the box under nextlibraries  ,  it may be  simply me as that is the default user name.

also check /usr/adm/messages

Hallo Mattman,

I assume you can login as root user, as you mentioned that (root?) password has been reset.

Open /NextAdmin/UserManager.app, go to "User", "open", click on the "/" domain and the users should be listed in the lower pane.
The following users are from system: agent, daemon, news, nobody, root, sybase uucp

All others might be real login/user names.
Double click on such a user name and change password.
Then save, confirm password and you should be done.

Cheers, Nuss
