Any retrocomputing enthusiast will tell you: you've got to get those clock+parameter batteries out of your computer or they'll leak and ruin everything! And I've seen it happen with all kinds of computers: Macs of various kinds, Lisas (so many Lisas), some old PCs, some old workstations, and on and on...
...but never NeXT machines. I've never heard of those yellow Panasonic BR-2/3A batteries causing anyone any trouble.
Has anyone here ever seen one of those things leak?
I have yet to see one leak and Ive repaired probably 100 system boards over the years. Having said that, its probably only a matter of time. Id remove when storing because luckily on a next it doesn't store many settings.
Yeah, I have removed all the batteries from my compact Macs and NeXTs. When I want to use one, I reinsert the battery.
I've got all my batteries lined up just outside of one of the cubes like a row of tiny cylindrical ducklings. I'm not taking any chances and I'd tell anyone else to do the same as me. I'm still curious to know if anyone's ever caught a leaker, though.
Hello : I've never seen a leaker and that's 1000's of boards.
