Hello Next Fans,
has anyone of you ever used the graphics software "Compose in Color" or seen and used the hardware expansion box "Black Box" which was available for it? The "Black Box" was a DSP hardware extension with SCSI connection that accelerated the program CiC during the graphic calculation.
The software was created and distributed around 1988-1995 by Oliver Unter Ecker (company name at that time was Unter Ecker Software from Germany).
Does anyone have any further information? So far I have only found these two links:
http://www.kevra.org/TheBestOfNext/ThirdPartyProducts/ThirdPartySoftware/Graphics/ComposeInColor/ComposeInColor.htmlhttp://www.kevra.org/TheBestOfNext/ThirdPartyProducts/ThirdPartySoftware/InputOutputAndStorage/BlackBox/BlackBox.htmlThanks for more information, maybe someone has the software and the black box for sale?
All the best

Hello Christapeller: Yes Compose in Color version 1.0 , it was NeXT's version of Photoshop on steroids at the time and I actually went through training with Oliver Unter Ecker himself at Alembic Systems in 93. It was the main foundation of Animo which became big in motion pictures .
Not many copies of CIC made it out into the wild as Cambridge Animation bought out oliver but I have version 1.0 and permission to distribute to hobbiests from Oliver ..... I just install it on my Custom NeXT SCSI2SD with hundreds of other cool NeXT 3rd party apps $199.95..... plug it in powerup, login and go .... on my eBay NeXT store
https://www.ebay.com/itm/274584260107 I know it runs in DEMO mode and most of the features are available. Best regards Rob Blessin
Thanks for the information,
I will look into in the coming days... any chance to post a picture from the BlackBox? Could not find any information on the net...
best regards
chris
hello Chris: I'v never seen the Black Box so it maybe Vapor ware ... I know somewhere in the anceint Alembic files I may have a code gemerator for 1.0 , finding it is another thing from 1993. I did find a box of Alembic folders and printed receipts the other day while organsing stuff . I'll let you know here if I come across the back up tapes , now finding a working drive will also be a chore..
