Says it all. I'd like Virtuoso 2.0 anyone have a copy?
Unfortunately that's another copy of 1.0 I've tried installing it. :-(
Hello Spitfire: I know it is on this CD
https://www.ebay.com/itm/275534069378 or I can make and drop box you a NeXT Compatible iso for $20 or if you buy the original on eBay, I can drop box you the ISO as well . If you have not seen this cd before it is really cool GScorp procured Virtuoso and this is the only place I have found the rare 2.0 version. As far as a virtuoso 2.0 license , I know it runs in DEMO mode but I'm sure has a license and I'll also look in parallel for one. I confirmed it is on the CD iso using Previous. Please message or email me and or buy it now! Best regards Rob Blessin
So I have some sort of sampler cd. I thought it was the GSCorp one. It has a copy of virtoso 2.0 demo on it, along with a textfile in Korean and a "virtuosoK" which could be cracked, or korean.
Either way I couldn't get it to work.
Could you check that the copy on that CD works, has the original .pkg files to install, and isn't a demo? If so I'll buy it.
Bump. Rob can you check the CD to see if it's the real thing, or just a demo?

I installed it successfully and entered a license key I have for Virtuoso 2.0 .
It however said the license expired and won't let me reattempt with out a reinstall .
it is the full app but I'm not sure how the time bomb is happening as it is a valid license.
this was in Previous...
So we have alternative that instructions we're messaged to you from Verdaith and i think that sounds like a tried true and tested solution downloadable, I'll continue tinkering , uninstall , reinstall as I have a few of these original Cd's and a lot of people looking for Virtuoso 2.0 then use Verdaith's method for licensing. Hi Rob,
This is interesting. You said you have the original install media for Virtuoso 2.0? Can you try copying the license file into your installed copy? Lets see if that works.
I'd be interested in seeing if it works with the original install media -- and I'd be interesting in acquiring an ISO of that, too!
I copied my Virtuoso tarballs to a virgin NeXTSTEP 3.3 m68k box and it Just Worked(tm).
I just tried things out with the version of Virtuoso that comes with that 'virtuoso_20k' ISO, and things got interesting.
The Info panel displays the license info, but the app insists on being a demo. The 'Multiuser License' panel also doesn't work, so my guess is that Altsys had a specific 'demo' build that was hobbled in such a way as to prevent it being licensed in any way.
The version labelled 'VirtuosoK' on the 'virtuoso_20k' ISO requires libNeXT_s from NS3.3J, so we can ignore that one.
Hello: I'll try it this evening and see what happens after shipping as many orders as possible today , the GS Corp CD may be the culprit .
Tested things out with Virtuoso.app from a copy of the GSworks ISO (thanks, Rob!) and it works.
Fantastic. So we have a working installation of Virtuoso 2.0 from original install media. Excellent.
Figuring out the proper single user license can wait.
Where can I get a copy of the GSCorp ISO?
Also, I need to get Rob some original Mathematica install packages. I have 2.0, 2.2 and 3,0.1/3.0.2
[Edited]
I guess my final desires for NeXT stuff are working sybase or oracle DB with the full set of EOF/WO for next.
I'd like to show some of this stuff to coworkers.

I have sent you PM a message with the drop box links and once you get it working you can send a paypal $20 , I sent links to 2 of GSCorp Work and the Solutions Suite iso's . 2 for 1 help keep the lights on to my Paypal address sound good ? Check your messages ;) I know you will enjoy the demos in watchme by the original developers of all the apps on the cd's cool stuff! I know your Coworkers will get a kick out of the demo's as well.
Hello Spitfire: I'll round up all of the Mathematica as well I have original floppies for the early stuff I know Mathematica 1.0 was Bundled on NeXT 1.0 Optical Disk I have one and I think a version 2.1 on Floppy later revs are iso looks like you have 3.0.2 which was the last version.
Which versions would be of most interest to you?
Mathematica 1.0 works with up to Version 3.3 of NeXTSTEP and doesn't require a license.
So I tried the version of Virtuoso 2.0 from Paul on my physical turbostation. It worked right away. No need to even change the hostname. I was able to create, edit and save documents. Closing the app and reopening it and my newly created document worked flawlessly.
Those two ISO images rob sent me look to be the exact same thing, though they differ in SHA hashes.
Also, there don't seem to be .pkg files for virtuoso. Just the application files in a folder. What's up here, am I missing something?
I already have all the Mathematica versions. Also have v1 of Mathematica so I don't need anything new. Physical media would be nice. I sold my copy to Rob years ago.
I believe the ones on the GS Works ISOs were meant to be products you could license 'over the phone' or whatnot, as the CD ships with a 'buy now' app.
I also suspect that the actual Virtuoso distribution media is either lost to time, sitting on a shelf gathering dust, or hidden away on some long-forgotten FTP server :(
It would be awesome if it could be found and preserved.
Re the hostname... I suspected that was used by the ISS licensing thing to enforce per-seat licensing. I wasn't sure if it would cause anything to stall due to a name lookup or whatnot. I should really experiment more with that, as the same licensing stuff is used by quite a few apps.
Glad to know it worked straight away :)
interesting, I've just noticed those two ISOs are idental too... I wonder if they were two different presses of the same master; the only differences being the jewel case insert and the printing on the discs.
Hello : It looks like GS Corp took over distribution or purchased Virtuoso for Version 2.0 . They may just have the application as an App rather than a package because initially hard drive space was an issue at hat time , a lot of NeXTstations shipped with 105Mb drives so compression was used frequently. Their were also 2 releases of the GS Corp ISO's Work and Solutions suite and they would have a year and date .... I know I have different physical CD's those are te 2 I created ISO's of ... and Yes I do have Physical Media of Mathematica, Are you asking me lol or the Universe as it won't be the first time I've sold NeXT stuff back to the original owner. I've been around so long lol may be 2 long but if I did not hold onto a lot of this NeXT stuff all these years not sure where it all would be at lost to the landfill or recycler of time?

Found the museum I remembered seemed to have a copy of Virtuoso 2.0.
I emailed them asking about it but got no response. Maybe Rob wants to give it a shot?

Hi, just saw this post, for anyone interested this is how to put virtuoso to work.
Gs iso has on folder GS_Apps virtuoso.app (not the demo one)
Then the virtuoso_20k iso has virtuosoK inside.
Open both virtuoso.app and copy the executable from the Gs into the virtuosoK because there is al library missing on virtuosok
Works like a charm
Open both virtuoso.app and copy the executable from the Gs into the virtuosoK because there is al library missing on virtuosok
What is the name of the Executable file I'm looking for to copy? As this would be awesome ...
Hello,
Sorry for the late reply, I had a personal situation and was not being able to reply back
On root folder of GS_Apps you have (not the DEMO_Virtuoso - folder)
Virtuoso (size = 5.9MB) go inside and copy the executable virtuoso
On the 20k iso go to folder
VirtuosoK you'll find
Virtuoso.app.compresses
- uncompress and you'll and go inside virtuoso.app
Then just copy the executable virtuoso from GS_apps into the virtuoso ok 20K
Hope this helps
The license key must be installed by first setting the system clock to 1995, then deleting the file Virtuoso.app/.VirtInfo if it exists, then starting the app and entering the license, quit the app and then reset the clock to the current year.
Hiya,
I am interested in buying Virtuoso 2.0 (media and license).
Is it still available?
All the best,
Kokomuck
