Hello all,

Very new to this board.  Am looking for a NeXT cube (030 is preferred); hopefully with NeXTStep installed and with periperals.  But who am I kidding, I'll take any black cube I can get!

Based in NE United States, but willing to pay shipping.

Anyone in the Northeast know of any place to find one?

Greetings conrad,

There is always ebay, but cube systems have been going for $500 or more lately.

i believe the 040 cube yesterday went for almost 900.00. it was in good shape, but i really do wonder what the appeal is at that price. im beginning to think it has nothing to do with the system or software development, but rather people wanting a cube for display.

Well i think thats just the point. I think most people (including myself) are more interested in NeXT for its collecters value than anything else.

Apple buying NeXT created some sort of advertising by itself. I in particular did not know NeXT ever existed until all the fuzz about Mac OS X began. So most people (I think) aren't interested in putting their machines to use anyway.

But isn't it not always just like that (if your'e collecting vintage computers): The perfect time to get the machines would be if they're so obsolete that no one in general would want to use them practically, but no one would had realized jet that they're "cool" (or whatever term applies).

I suppose for NeXT Stuff in general that would've been somwhere somewhen 2000 - 2002?

Exactly.  That's when I accumulated most of my NeXT gear, my two Canon object.stations, my BeBox and most of my Sgi equipment.

i know where you guys are coming from. i kind of do the same thing with vintage mountain bikes. and have to admit, a cube would be a very nice office accessory..even just sitting in the window.

:D
