Hi again guys! I did something dumb and could use some help: re: a thread I started earlier, I tried logging into my SCSI2SD-powered Turbo Color with username/password "root" and it worked - yay! As I was exploring the apps and stuff that Rob Blessin kindly included on the SD card, I started playing around with some of the system settings, including the mouse settings. I turned on the contextual pop-out menu option for right click, and inadvertently applied it to the *left* button... and now I'm stuck.
I've been using trackballs - either a Kensington TurboMouse (2-button) or a Logitech TrackMan Marble (3-button). Unfortunately, neither trackball nor the NeXT mouse will register a "normal" click - they only register the "right click" action, regardless of what button I'm clicking. Arghghgh!!
Any tips would be appreciated, I feel like a big dummy right now...
A correction and resolution to this thread:
1. As previously noted, I'm a dummy
2. I don't have a 1-button NeXT mouse, because those don't exist.
3. I do have a "non-ADB" NeXT mouse (with two buttons)
4. I plugged my non-ADB NeXT mouse into the keyboard and was able to successfully undo this settings change
5. I was sorely tempted to delete this entire thread when I realized how dumb this whole thing was, but I'll leave it here for posterity, and to serve as a warning that doing retrocomputing around midnight after a couple glasses of wine is fun but also a high-risk-of-stupidity activity
Thank you for not uninviting me to this group (yet?), despite how frequently I get myself twisted into increasingly-stupid knots!

I think it is easiest to just delete the preferences file.
- After pressing the power button right after Loading from ... appears press command+tilde. You will be dropped to the ROM Monitor.
- On the NeXT> prompt type bsd -s to boot into single user mode. The kernel will be loaded and you will be dropped to the single user console.
- Type "rm /me/.NeXT/.NeXTdefaults.L". This will delete your preferences. Type "exit" and the process will continue normally.
I am assuming your user is "me". If you are using a different user name, just replace "me" with that name. You may need to re-configure some stuff after this.
I hope it helps!
Update: I noticed, that the above post was updated. I leave my instructions here anyway in case someone needs to delete preferences for some reason.
Hi @Huxley, glad that you could sort it out.
Does your NeXT mouse now have two (in software) working buttons that you can assign as you like?

Yes, when the NeXT mouse is connected, I can use the left-click and right-click functions, and swap which button triggers which function. Even so, I'll stick with my trackball since my desk space is very limited and I don't find that I'm actually using the right-click function very often in NeXTSTEP.
