Did any of you ever get a copy of this application?
I see that the official Mac OS X Server documentation speaks about a free personal license, but - probably due to a patent issue - the application was pulled before it ever really got out of beta.
Anyway I'm looking for the application :)

Quote"OmniGroup Backup Personal Edition is a fully functional application. It gives users the ability to back up and restore files from extended Macintosh (HFS+) and Unix (UFS) volumes, as well as set a schedule for unattended backups. The Professional Edition has extra features including the ability to back up Unix network volumes (via NFS) and to create unlimited fileSets and archives."

Hallo Daxziz,

have never seen this software in the wild.

In 1999 we had a Mac OS X Server section, but in opposite to many other pieces of software, OmniGroup seems to never have uploaded any "OmniGroup Backup" version onto the Peanuts Archive.

Cheers, Nuss

Could be because of the patent issue.
From the Mac OS X Server 1.2v3 Read Me, you have the following information:
Quote"OmniBackup Personal Edition issue
If the resolution of your monitor is set to 640 by 480, you will not be able to see parts of some windows and dialog boxes in OmniBackup Personal Edition. To solve this issue, set the resolution of your monitor to at least 800 by 600."

So I believe the software was distributed, but I haven't seen it anywhere.

Also... from the link in my first post.
Quote"The Omni Group has released OmniGroup Backup and has updated OmniWeb to version 3.0.2. OmniGroup Backup is a new application for backup and data storage on the Mac OS X Server. OmniWeb is a full featured web browser for Mac OS X, and the new version incorporates a number of bug fixes. According to The Omni Group:"

Thanks, Rob.

I've downloaded it and will take a look at it.

However I found out, that OmniBackup and OmniRestore are actually included as part of Rhapsody 5.6 (at least) and are freely accessible from within the system.
Sadly the requirement are specific tape drives and there's no way to use an NFS share or something like it.

I consider the case closed :)
