Hi out there,
after some years I want to boot my NeXTStation again. The ROM Monitor checks the SCSI controller and initiating the hardisc boot by
NexT> b sd(0,0,0)
After a while I get the error message
no SCSI disc found
The disc itself spins up, the control light is lids, but no movement of the reader heads can be heard.
It all looks like the hard disc went South.
My questions:
1. does a fsck can rescue the disc? If yes, how? (I cannot boot from the OD yet)
2. if i have to replace the hd, is the SCSI2SD the preferred option?
Many thanks and greetings from Southern California
Marc
In this case fsck won't help. I suggest trying a different disk or maybe first check the cables.
Like Andreas wrote, what helped me sometimes for boxes turned on after few years (if the HDD is not defective, but maybe only the connection): carefully take out RAM and reinsert (few times), remove the SCSI-cable from HDD and board and re-plug (few times), blow dust et al from mainboard, remove drive and blow dust from its board. Good luck!
(Looks like both replies are German native speaker) Danke für die schnelle Antwort. Ich werde die RAM Riegel ein und ausbauen. SCSI Kabel habe ich schon ein und ausgestöpselt.
Hoffentlich klappts!
Grüße aus Kalifornien
Did you try NeXT>bsd -s ?
