Hello folks,
Been very quiet here for a few weeks. I can easily see where current world events would wrench our thoughts away from our pastimes (such as our old computers).
I have been playing with my NeXTs through the winter (along with my SGI boxen), when I can, in order to lighten the gloom. Alas my '040 Cube has issues but the TurboColor soldiers on - have added an external drive, and been configuring OpenLook and other X11 programs under Cub'X-Window. I've occasionally been hunting gopherholes with Gopher 1.3.3 on the original '030 NeXT Computer (still running with its original full-height 670MB hard drive!!).
Something pretty easy that I've been mulling over and would like members' opinions: would a sticky post on the NextStep/OpenStep section listing all NS/OS software archives be a something we could offer, making it a bit easier for new folks to find software. Lack of time to chase down software is certainly an issue for some (many?) of us. Obviously the archive here at nextcomputers.org is excellent but others do exist, with some variation in what programs are available, or their form (Mr. Haleblian has made the KB7SQI archive available in separate packages, for instance - much to my delight since I have limited network bandwidth).
And then perhaps down the line, another with a directory of software, with at least a one-line description and successes/failures (for instance, I know of some USENET newsreaders that only work with NNTP servers not requiring an acct/password, which may be extinct in the wild!). I have been keeping a document with such information for the software I've installed on my NeXTs and would like to share it.
This sounds much like a wiki-type endeavour but it would be very nice if the info were available to view in OmniWeb 2.7....
Thoughts?
Cheers from Virginia

I'd be happy to create a sticky post if you or other members have a good list of NeXT links. The wiki style page might be more difficult to implement, but I would be open to ideas.
Excellent, thank you, Nitro! I shall begin the post in the NEXTSTEP/OPENSTEP Software section - sound good? I see this will be my first sticky since my 'Guide to Sun Hardware for NextStep' in Mar. 2006!
