Hello NeXT Community:
Does anyone have a cache of NeXT Hardware they are looking to sell, trade or donate ?
I am currently interested in BUYING : NeXT NON ADB Keyboards, NeXT NON ADB Mice and NeXT Sound-boxes ,
and / or anything NeXT :).
My current SUPPLY situation of the peripherals is limited not by choice as I NEED TO KEEP The NeXT NON ADB Sets I have in Stock
for Complete NeXT Computer Setups that are flying off the shelf. I am as busy as I was in the 90's and I'm only one guy as I had up to 6 employees.
*****
Sense of humor here please as it is TRUE what I am saying.
I'm not trying to be mean or ignore inquiries then being called out on the net as to if I have
these items for sale. Up until last year it was not a problem.
I've sold thousands of them over 29 years I never imagined selling that many but I have WOW it is the NeXT business is amazing.
Please note,
I'm not the villain here with a hidden agenda lol for not having the peripherals for the NeXT you Seek.
You recently procured your NeXT from X marks the spot that is missing the keyboard and mouse and
sound-box; please go back to them and ask if they have the od components as many times, they actually do and just
didn't know because they have no idea that NeXT components are proprietary.
I do have a limited supply of NeXT ADB keyboards and NeXT ADB Mice but they only work with the NeXT Turbo
Systems,, this is not because of me lol that is on NeXT's original design, you also need to chec for the V74 Rom Chip..
Solutions: It was not an Easy task.
We have invented for NeXT hardware Cables to work with flat panels ,
Amazing Engineers have created alternative sound cards solving the scarcity or missing sound box issue
and we as of 2 weeks ago are sold out of even those temporarily , plans are in the works to manufacture more
as the NeXT keyboard plugs into the Sound Card you need one to have it work.
Matt over at www.drakware.com is also sold out of this version of the no sound sound card for NeXT.
Matt at Drakware also has USB to NeXT Solutions , currently sold out of those as well.
******
Alternatives to SCSI drive with the scsi2sd , Yes I have good stock of these because I'm told the
supplier may also sell out because of production delays back ordered since last May. Covid be damned.
I do the best I can in the year 2022 with what is available
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
So on the other side of this hopefully you have the NeXT keyboards, mice
and sound-boxes I seek to help the NeXT community keep the good old NeXT's running.
*********
Thank you for not calling me out on the net on all this , as I don't check every nook and cranny all the time as
I say I try even a year ago availability was not an issue.
Why is it now please look to my youtube.com/robblessin channel you will see I have been very busy and hundreds of examples of
NeXT hardware projects I've done for happy customers globally.
It is only a fraction of the total, it should show you why I'm down on availability of some but not all NeXT items.
I enjoy doing this ..... my heart is always in it and appreciate your understanding .
Appreciate your time and business ! Best regards Rob Blessin
It might be getting to the point that we'll all have to start getting creative. Maybe it would be possible to modify Adafruit's non-ADB keyboard to USB adapter (
https://learn.adafruit.com/usb-next-keyboard-with-arduino-micro/code) to allow USB keyboards to work on non-ADB machines. Maybe extend that idea and get USB mice to work with the adapter as well, or use something like this adapter (
https://web.archive.org/web/20140414164216fw_/http://m0115.web.fc2.com/main.html#PS2NeXT). We could also send a NeXTcube to Adafruit and see if they would help us. 8)
I'm short on non-ADB keyboards, mice and sound boxes for the systems that I own as well. Hopefully someone will discover a barn find of NeXT peripherals somewhere.

Hello Nitro: Matt at Drakware has this solution
https://www.drakware.com/shop/p/nextusb and it works so you can actually plug USB keyboards and mice
into it then daisy chained using this
https://www.drakware.com/shop/p/nextbox so it is your USB Keyboard and mouse thru NeXTusb thru mini din 5 cable to NeXT Box (no sound)
into either a custom Y Cable for Color flat panel support or
NeXTUSB straight into an original NeXT Monitor.
It also works with Brian's Sound card which gives you sound.
I hope that makes sense t any rate all of the gadgets are sold out currently ....

Hi Rob,
I like what Drakware has done, but I'm talking about an open source design that anyone can build. That way people can assemble their own device if other solutions are out of stock. I really prefer projects where the design files and source code are available for everyone to learn and build. I know there's no money in that, but that's ok. I've been running these forums for almost 17 years now, and I've never earned a penny from this site. Besides, I need peripherals for 20 systems, so a cost effective solution is a must.
It might be time for a good old-fashioned work log. Good luck with the search for more NeXT peripherals, I sure hope that someone has a stash of them.
Hello Nitro: Excellent idea and we really appreciate all the work you have done on the forum for these 17 years :) Please DM me your shiping address and Nitro , I'll send you one of these NeXT Station has landed poster / prints for free 8.5 * 11 . Cool stuff.

It's already done and open source with an STM32 micro courtesy of yusukeito as well as a complete soundbox replacement in VHDL:
http://www.nextcomputers.org/forums/index.php?topic=4481.0 I have also released full schematics for my soundbox replacement that anyone can build -if- they have an ASIC from a printer or soundcard beyond repair:
http://www.asterontech.com/Asterontech/nosoundadb/NU_IO_SCHEM.pngMy project was only ever intended as a stop-gap though and the custom ASICs I have will soon be gone. I do my boards very close to cost and at a loss if you consider any reasonable compensation for build/testing time.
The cases are also open source and available courtesy of RBZ:
http://www.nextcomputers.org/forums/index.php?topic=4514.0I think generally most of us would rather toss a few dollars to Rob and let him handle the logistics.

Hi Brian,
I'm sorry if my comments came across wrong. I had forgotten about yusukeito's project, thank you for reminding me. I appreciate very much the work that you and others have done on these NeXT projects, and the community wouldn't be the same without Rob. I was just expressing frustration over the lack of NeXT keyboards and mice.
I met Rob twenty years ago when he lived by the Denver Tech Center. I stopped by his house to pick up a non-ADB sound box, which I still have. I also had the pleasure of meeting Rob's parents to pick up a Turbo color slab, which he dropped off at their home because they live closer to me. Rob also sold me my first copy of OPENSTEP and developer, as well as many other NeXT items.
I'm in awe of the NU_IO and the other projects that you've done, as it's certainly not something that I could do. Having projects available pre-built is a valuable option, and I didn't mean to imply otherwise.
No offense taken Nitro! Just pointing out we actually have a lot of open knowledge and options for being such a small community. Although it does take some digging to put it all together. I'm not sure where we'd be without you keeping the porch lights on all these years with the forum and archive! You're the real mvp here.
I'm surprised to hear there's a dearth of non-ADB KBs and mice, from my experience they're the most durable and plentiful bits! Maybe it's time for me to sell a spare one or two...
Hello NeXT Community: To show my appreciation to everyone in the NeXT Community all these years:

In recent years I think there are probably more active keyboard users than black hardware fans. I personally use one as my daily driver. I just hope not too many have been scrapped for the switches.
Hello Brian: I know that when Deskthority bought some keyboards from me then published this article
https://deskthority.net/wiki/NeXT , things went bananas and I had to shut down my keyboard sales as I had guys wanting to buy everyone of them to harvest the keyswitches lol and a I was not going to do that for any price , a guy offered me $150 a board even broken ones for 100 of them. I don't think I was crazy for turning it down knowing they would be scraped . I did sell him a few , they also place a premium on Cream Keyswitches and not the black ones . I'm not sure if they actually differ as some may be dampened , the early boards with small enter key have either creme or black key switches and I often wonder if Steve Jobs demanded the keyswitches be black even though they would never be seen unless the keycaps have been removed. The way to find out would be remove a keyswitch of each and compare.

Wait....so you have to sacrifice a (non-working) printer or soundcard to make a replacement? Or yusukeito implementation using an FPGA? There is nothing in-between? I just got a Turbo Color with peripherals and a Megapixel Color monitor and have started to look into filling in the gaps. I knew the sound boxes were hard to come by but man, hurts the wallet to see how much!

Oh, I know ;D I'll be ordering from you sooner or later. My Color slab is missing the logo case badge and the NeXT Station Tubro Color triangle badge. Have any of the triangle badges?
