I do wonder if that was done as a sly homage to Apple? Where did they get the system, do you know Rob?

Yes, I saw that as well lol and have provided props as well as production systems running Animo for Dream Works, Disney Animation, Pixar, Warner Brothers Universal etc.... even Saturday Night Live....... movies like Space Jam, Iron Giant , Prince of Egypt and Beavis and Butthead were all created using Animo and the Steve Jobs movie , Halt and Catch Fire etc used some NeXT hardware we provided 🙂 . A large number of NeXT systems in Chicago land my favorite was helping keep the NeXT's running Chicago Harley , my employees at the time and myself enjoyed the Harley Schwag and still do as some of it arrived during the 100th aniversary of Harley! FunStuff .    I volunteer to go back in time and save this damsel in distress  from the evil killer time tweaker , Life at 59 lol:)

Hey guys - that is my NextStation! It is indeed a real, working system. I never did any work for any kind of TV production before so this was a real crazy. You can see another monitor in the shot, that one I rented from VCF. I am near Chicago and that's were most of the filming took place. They responded to my craigslist want ad for vintage computers.. They wanted to rent a computer for me - something in a lab is what they told me. Originally they wanted to use a Sun system - but I don't have one and just knew the NextStation would be far more photogenic. Obviously being an Apple show, I knew they wouldn't reject the notion. Not to mention, it was about damn time a NeXT system got some screen time! I did some custom animation stuff that runs on the system that I hope shows up in a later episode! Stay tuned! I plan to write something up on the whole experience soon.

Hold on! Rob, please clarify, you have provided NeXT hardware running Animo! and many members including you, still lookign for the same Animo SW, I'm confused

if you have Animo, please let us know, I will love to see it running on my Tubocube :)

Hello : Yes I provided NeXTSTEP 3,3 on Intel systems with Screen Machines by Fast (Blue Screen/Green Screen) drivers by IPC Interpersonal Computing  . Oliver Unter Ecker Author of Compose in Color photoshop on Steroids for NeXT and roots of Animo , was integral in making Animo come to life. I actually received training from him on CIC at Alembic Systems in 1993 . Cambridge Animation then provided the Licenses starting $40,000 per seat for the boxes an d required a special serial port dongle to work. I asked for a license no joy, I have an intel box here that has animo installed but it is DOA currently , I did have the dongle for Animo as well ut somehow out of all of the cables in my house as in thousands , my evil ex roommate Lisa took that cable and hid it. Why I do not know and I have turned the house upside down looking but oh lordy  I made a video that shows the bloody dongle and I know I have seen it recently https://youtu.be/jQQPD5JN9Gw  at any rate , my plan is to get it working project number; I've lost count Covid did not help ,  I'm only 1 guy and yes I asked Oliver , he said he would not have access to the source, guys on the forum that worked for Cambridge also were trying to help  , many other threads on the forum on Animo, you know we have tried. It is on my bench , if I ever catch up , I'm as busy as when I had 10 peaple happily workimg for me in the 90's.  Automation of many tasks has helped , I'm pacing myself.

I did not supply the hardware for Shining Girls , the show gives me nightmares . no likey, lol I peer out from under my bed sheet watching it with a lazy lizard eye twitching back and forth. I'm sure Null probably chuckles a bit as he may not have known the script of Shining Girls at any rate always good to see NeXT hardware on Screen again.

Hello: NeXT Community: NeXT Computers are still used at NASA to this day for the Hubble and James Webb Telescopes .... so the Astronomy theme fits nicely in Shining Girls.

I helped NASA  by resurrecting the NeXT Hardware, not many takers on the NASA / NeXT hardware project but I got her done and they dialed in the Hubble and even now the James Webb telescope..... testament to how good NeXTSTEP and the Developer tools creating  Custom Apps are ; they have stood the test of time.

Oh this helps explain what the heck I'm rambling on about lol ....

Having spent 8 years supporting the testing of the Widefield Camera 3,
which will be installed during the servicing mission, you can imagine
that I am very excited about the launch today as well.

The NeXT computers were used for the testing of Hubble's science
instruments on the ground so they won't be used for the servicing
mission itself. 

However, we were just recently using the NeXT computers for some lab
testing that is supporting the next big space telescope, the James Webb
Space Telescope, so they are still in use!  If you recall, the system
that the NeXT computers operate is called the Aberrated Beam Analyser
(ABA).  The ABA has been used to verify the optical performance of many
different science instruments for over the last 15 years.  However,
because the ABA electronics and hardware is getting old and is prone to
failure, we are now looking into either updating the electronics or
decommissioning it.  Either way, the NeXT computers you built have
proven to be reliable and instrumental in allowing us to continue using
the ABA.

Hello Nullvalue: Plot twist knowing the fair Lady from the planetarium in the Shining Girls is being pursued by a multidimensional time serial killer creep , a brave and worthy prop guy Null secreted out a message , posted to an ancient NeXT Computer Forum group. He knew the only computer capable of Multiverse time bending and transport was his trusty NeXTSTATION that had laid in wait since the 90's  knowing this day would come. It was not well known that his missing NeXT Non ADB keyboard feet held with in them, a key to activating powerful time bending crystals that spelled doom for the evil time ******** in the Shining Girls lol. So once (Jenny?) would quietly , set the trap at the planetarium  on the NeXT just another day at the office .  The Shining killer once more warps in to try and attack the innocent young women but this time , his evil plot is thwarted as the NeXT sends out an multidimensional time alert and actually traps him in a bubble , The dumb ass time tweaker is in Chicago of all places and you know his ass is in serious trouble now. Tweak-er did not know about the cache of NeXT's at Chicago Harley with a highly trained crew of the top notch brother and sister hood of the Hybrid NeXT / Harley Time and Space Rescue Hogs and the noble and skilled Jedi older and wiser now these 30 years later ,  nextcomputers.org forum members, you know who you are let's roll....
