Title: Forum Interruption
Post by: Nitro on June 29, 2022, 09:08:25 PM
The forums went down on Saturday and corrupted the database. I restored the database from a backup that I made on the 06/22.  That means that any posts that were made after the backup on the 22nd will have to be re-posted. Sorry to everyone for the inconvenience. I wasn't able to download and install the latest version of the forum software until last night because, as luck would have it, the simplemachines.org website was down for three days. We're now at the latest version of the forum software. I had to recreate the custom NeXT forum theme, so if you notice any anomalies please let me know. Thanks for your patience during the downtime, and to those who offered to help.

A few of the forums here including this one are not visible to guest users, so new posts in these forums won't appear in the 'Recent posts' section of the Info Center unless a member is logged in. I had forgotten that the Recent posts list is filtered by member permissions.

The forums went down again this afternoon. This was due to HostGator moving the site to a new server without warning. I called tech support and was told by an automated voice that my expected wait time was 86 minutes. After reaching a tech support representative they confirmed that this site was affected by the migration. It even took down the email server. Sorry for the inconvenience.

I hear ya. GoDaddy treated me poorly as well. If these companies would just sent an email ahead of time to warn customers of the outage then at least we would know what was going on. I may have to move to another host if the down time continues.
