There is a copy of Stella for Intel floating around. Does it run for anyone? I could not get it to run on OPENSTEP 4.2 Intel

Hi, just have tried Stella.0.7.m.I.tar.gz on OpenStep 4.2 and it works perfectly fine with the test ROMs provided with the package.

Only quirk I noticed: after starting Stella a ROM needs to be actively loaded from the applications menu. Navigate to the Stella.app / Resources folder and select one of the three test ROMs. Then click "start" in the Stella window.

That is really interesting you were able to get it to run. When I click the App from the File Viewer, it just closes , I don't see a window or anything. I tried launching from the command line hoping to see perhaps a message and got an NSRangeException...

Hi @wizard , yes, the app ran just fine by double-clicked.

What you described happened to me before. Three ideas:

Files (inside Stell.app) got corrupted during transfer (e.g. unzipped the app on a PC and ftp'd it to OpenStep box in "ascii" mode).
Please always use "binary" mode when transferring by ftp.

Wrong permissions on folders and/or files (e.g. no execute rights on the application file inside the Stella.app folder, or missing read rights on some file or folder)

Normally you see app-errors in the console window. But you can analyze with Terminal.app, too:

- open Terminal.app and type "cd " (with space at the end)
- then drag and drop the Stella.app icon onto Terminal.app to get the path to the app folder
- press return-key, you should now be inside the Stella.app folder (in the shell in Terminal)
- type ./Stella to start the application
- watch out for errors that got printed in the shell / Terminal

Good luck :)

EDIT: oh dear. Sorry just now saw your attached window, where you already debugged from Terminal.

So just another shoot into the dark: do you have OpenStep 4.2 installed with all Patches available and with the full Development Tools?

Hi @wizard ,

files look the same to me, especially timestamps. (Re: blocksize, my "ls" was taken on a Linux box).

Do you have the following installed? (not sure if required, but my box has and there needs to be a difference somewhere between our setups)

Packages from Receipts folder:

Think I do not have EOF installed.

Can not fully remember if all the older OS42 Patches need to be installed, but think Patch4 contained all former fixes.

And here some images of the installed Frameworks:

Maybe a library is missing or older (buggy) on your installation?
