A dimension board, and a bunch of pre-installed software as well.

This should go for quite a bit.  I saw the link to the forums in the item description, so who in here is selling it?

It is I.

I just wanted to thank everyone for their help and advise in the past in this great forum.

I hate to see it go but I figure someone out there will have more time for it then I do.

I still think it is one of the nicest engineered and and aww inspiring computers in decades and I'm sure I'm going to regret selling it one day.

Cheers

You will reget it.  I sold several systems in the past (Amigas, TRS-80 Model 100s) and I have those feeling of regret every time one comes up in a conversation or forum thread.  But a lot of new and interesting systems have taken their places.

i had almost identical thinking recently when i sold one of my trucks and pretty much whenever i have sold or traded a gun that was significant in some way. it used to bother me for weeks at time. over time and as i looked back over the sales, there really aren't that many that i can truely regret though.

like you said, it all comes down to time. if anything, i'm having less of it as i get older. if i don't have time for it now, it's not likely i will in five or ten years. and as i really get up there and can't physically do the same stuff anymore, i figure i'll end up doing something totally new like wood working or watchmaking anyway. hopefully, you will find something new and never regret the sale.

btw, the real question is who here will be bidding on it.   :)

Unfortunately I can not sleep in it, a little too small.  My ass would be on the street holding my beloved "piece of junk" if I spent the kind of money it would require to get it.

Tempting .. but no, I will not be bidding :(

why? and i don't mean that in a bad way, i'm just curious which aspects appealed to you. i only worked on one, but wouldnt initially think it in the same class as your other machines.

i seem to remember some kind of cartoon/slogan they head though...about chips kicking ass?? and a kid that looked like sluggo from the nancy comic strip.

I think this is what you were talking about. I used to have it as a desktop pattern back when I was in my PLAFTORM ADVOCY WARS phase (age 13).

I tend to collect and use machines that appeal to me/turn me on for a particular reason, this is often that it is unique or vary rare (BeBox, NeXTcube Turbo) or that it is the most powerful model in range (Macintosh 840av, Amiga A4000T) or because it was otherwise special to me (TAM, Pismo, FM Towns).

In the case of the Power Tower Pro, at the time and along with a handful of other machines (Daystar Genesis for example) it was better than anything coming out of the Apple factories, I liked to mindset of the Power Computing bunch, I liked how they Thought Different and got in bed with Be, they where a bunch of renagades and a breath of fresh air.  In retrospect I miss them, I miss the clones, I'm not saying there where good for Apple, obviously Steve thought otherwise.

My PT Pro had a Daystar nPower 400 dual 604E CPU in it, and I used it exclusively for running BeOS 4.5, it was a wonderful machine for that task, and that's why I miss it, add to that it was very well made and looked great, even had a decent KB and mouse with it.  BeOS on dual PPC 604E is wicked, the GL cube demo playing movies on each facet of the cube in real time as the cube spins is awsome.  Thus it's playing 6 movies on a spinning cube in 3d, all handled by BeOS as there is no 3d card support as I know if back then.  The mere thought of a PC with Windows or a Mac running Mac OS back then being able to accomplish that task was an utter joke.

Ask Blackcube what he thinks, he's got a quad 200 Daystar Genesis MP 800 running BeOS.  Now that I would like to see, in fact I'm looking for a Genesis for such a project.

Let's kick Intel's ass, it's funny how things change I wonder what Steve Kahng thinks about the Macintels............

An hour or so left, and going for over $1000.  Looks like its gonna be a good payoff for Rooster, assuming he makes the money back it took to get it all together in the first place.

something ive been wondering about is the other cube system on ebay. still has two days left and over $900.00. i think its been higher then the dimension almost all along. is there something about it that im missing?

it seems to me that if someone were to sink $900.00 into that thing, they should have at least gone $1100.00 on the dimension. plus, it's not mentioned specifically, but the seller eludes in the listing that the cube has been repainted. if i bid that high and something with a less than factory finish showed up, i'd go ballistic.

Good point about the finish, should a cube be that shiny?  I have never seen one in person, and the slabs I have are rather "rough", but they have no where near to that much shine.

Without seeing it close up, that's pretty much what my cube looks like.

So the cubes have a different finish then the stations?

Yeah, stations or at least mine seem to be a metal lid which is covered in some kind of rubberised/plastic material.

Cubes are painted metal, I'd also say they are a satin paint finish.

Good to know.  I guess it makes sense, since the stations would have to stand up to having a monitor on top of them being moved around.
