Title: Add Hard Drive Sounds to SD/CF/SSDs

I recently added compact flash drive to my turbo color slab to replace the old noisy Seagate Barracuda hard drive. Since the CF drive is silent I added a stealth LED (https://www.nextcomputers.org/forums/index.php?topic=4872) to indicate drive activity. It works well and it's non-intrusive. Then I noticed this video on YouTube. :) It looks like it'll need to evolve a bit to add volume control, randomness and more bass sounds like clunks.

I've been considering buying one of those. I just felt that the sound was a bit off. I really enjoy certain old hard disk noises and I label my extra drives based on if they work or not and how delicious the sound is :P While I don't miss the whirring of the drives I do miss the seek noises and in machines with no disk acticity leds the noise is often the only way to tell whether the machine froze or if it's still doing something...
On other machines like Macintosh LC or Centris 610, I've used a dual-coloured led in place of the original power led. While this didn't work quite as well as I thought, it was ok-ish (the new led was way too bright and I had to trial-and-error resistor values to make it more tolerable. It also required the led grounds to be the same on both lines which is not always the case).
I liked the stealth LED on your slab and I might do the same on mine. Perhaps again tweak the resistor value to make it a bit less bright.

I want one that makes the squeaky mouse sound the Lisa 10MB Widget drive makes.
If you know, you know.

Hello NeXT Community: I have actually hooked up a bunch of damaged scsi hard drives that made unique noises and worked them like a DJ lol spinning them up and down . It was an interesting sound I may have opened up a portal lol.
I remember 1 Seagate Barracuda hard drive upon boot up it would make Phaser Sounds , it must require programming the drive BIO's as no speaker was involved as it camfrom the drive, very cool though....
and I wonder if it may be possible to add a boot up sound to the SCSI2SD's ( I guess may be this clicker device does that) or to add to the NeXT Parameter Sound Out system test as currently it only makes a beep upon boot up to show sound is working.
There are also some fun gag apps for NeXT , where you NeXT will sniffle, sneeze, fart or snore lol .
If I locate the Barracuda that makes the cool phaser noise I'll post a video.

Ok, I bought one clicker and tested it on my mono slab. I felt this machine in particular needs either a outside-visible HDD LED, or the sound of a real disk.
I do like the idea, but still must agree with the comments on the slightly shrill and loud sound of the clicker. In case of the NeXTstation I put the clicker (haphazardly just resting on the SCSI cable held mostly by just the original firm molex power cable) on the rear next to the air vents (so the sound gets out louder than it might in other cases (pun intended)). Not really sure what to compare this to ;D
I added some foam and more tape over the speaker but still I am somewhat unsure if I want to keep it on, it's just a bit too loud to my liking..
(I had a small video clip, but it was too big as an mp4 for an attachment, and the forum doesn't allow MP3s...)

I added the .mp3 file extension to the list of allowable upload extensions so you should be able to attach MP3s now. :)

Ha, thanks Nitro ;D
Ok, this is a silly clip but here goes. The loud click at the start is me pressing the power key on the keyboard (my phone was right next to it), then you can hear the NeXTstation fan coming up, self-test-boink sound and the HDD clicker sounds as the computer boots to the login prompt. Again, this is with the case closed, phone looking down at it perhaps a 50cm away.
In this clip I even further modified the clicker by covering the speaker opening on the clickers case with hot glue. It did have an effect on the sound and I'd say it's slightly more tolerable now.
