What do you think about adding a forum category for asking questions, a category for something not serious and not that big (but related to Next), and an off topic category?
I'd be open to adding a fun type of off topic forum, but it would need to avoid polarizing topics that get people fired up and arguing. :) I also need to clarify some of the forum descriptions such as the one for this forum to better define the types of discussions.
I've seen this successfully done in some forums by adding "(keep it non-political)" to the name of the thread and/or forum group.
Here's a fun example in a honda forum.

I vote for keeping the forums as is. There are other places to discuss other things. Let's keep this focused on NeXT topics.
Hello NeXT Community: I think having off topic NeXT discussions unfortunately brings in floods of spammers or spam bots trying to register. Nitro is on the front lines of this at the registration process and approval for new member posts. It would be great to have something like this but I agree let's just keep it on topic about NeXT or we will prophetically see phone card spam posts needing approval. My idea for a new categories would be a Specific NeXT 68K Hardware Repair section as NeXT Work logs kind of has overlaps between projects and repairs and perhaps one for NeXT Software Configuration Basic Questions with Answers as more activity up tick on the forum is happening currently .
